Student Registration
If you are registering a new student for the 2021-2022 school year, please make an appointment with Ms. Sarah Fuller, registrar, using the following link:
Lunch Volunteers Currently Needed
Monday-Friday, 10:30 AM -1:30 PM, 4 volunteers needed
Please contact Meghan Ehrman, Assistant Principal, mrehrman@fcps.edu, if interested.
This is an opportunity to support the needs of Fairview. We’re currently seeking a small cohort of daily volunteers to help our students in the cafeteria during lunchtime. Responsibilities include sanitizing tables, monitoring student spacing, supporting children with needs during their lunch time, and assisting children with hand-sanitizing entering and leaving the cafeteria. Having parent volunteers to help us maximize our mitigation strategies during lunch and ensure consistent daily coverage would have such a great impact on our operations as we return strong five days a week. A training will be provided to parents who are able to volunteer.
School Communications
In order to streamline school communications to ensure you are informed of school-related events and information, FES will communicate with families in the following ways:
- Wednesday folders – will continue to be sent home weekly with students to include student work samples and school flyers.
- News You Choose messages- will continue to be emailed to enrolled families on Wednesdays at 4:30 PM.
eNotify messages- will continue to be used to provide families with emergency information or special announcements.
Parent Consent for Digital Resources
Fairfax County Public Schools uses a variety of resources to support student learning. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year require parental consent. FCPS requires that the vendor adhere to the security and privacy requirements specified in a confidentiality agreement included in their contracts.
-
Click here to view a list of digital resources at Fairview ES that require parent consent.
-
Click here to grant or deny consent for your child to use digital resources.
Student Devices
All students will be assigned a computer during the first week of school. Please be aware of the expectations for student devices:
Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grades: Students will be assigned a device that stays in school. If devices are needed for schoolwork or projects, or in the event of an extended absence or temporary closure, devices will be sent home with students so they can continue to participate in their classwork.
Grades 3 - 12: Students will be issued an FCPS device for school use. Your child will take their device home with them each day, and should come to school each day with their device fully charged.
Opt-Out Flier Now Available Online
The 2021-22 Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms Flier is now available online. Please note that this is not the Family Life Education (FLE) opt-out. This flier provides information for parents on FCPS’ policies regarding parent rights to opt out of surveys, photographs, counseling, and more. This flier will also be printed and distributed as part of our back to school packet to families.
Free Meals
When we return strong this fall, FCPS’ Food and Nutrition Services staff will be ready to serve healthy meals to students and staff. This year, all students receive FREE breakfast and lunch!
Breakfast will be “grab & go” so students are prepared to begin their day of learning.
Five days of hot lunches will be back for that mid-day refuel.
Mask Guidance
Masks are an essential tool in preventing the spread of COVID-19 and protecting those unable to be vaccinated. To ensure a safe start to the school year, masks will be required for everyone, regardless of vaccination status, inside FCPS school buildings.
Wearing a mask protects us all:
- Children under 12 and the immunocompromised are not able to be vaccinated at this time.
- By wearing a mask, we all help create a safe environment for those who are unable to be vaccinated.
- When recommended social distancing is a challenge, universal masking is an approved substitute - meaning more students can engage in learning in classrooms and other spaces within the school building.
- Reducing the spread of COVID-19 also reduces student absences and missed extracurricular activities and athletic events.
-
Buses: The CDC federal order requiring masks be worn on public transportation remains in effect, and applies to buses and school transportation operated by Virginia public schools.
Outdoors: Masks are not required when outside, including athletic activities.
Mealtimes: Masks may be removed while eating but should be reapplied as soon as you are finished with your meal.

SOL Information
We wanted to provide an update about when and how parents will be able to access the results from any SOL or VRSPT tests that the students took in May of the last school year.
- SOL Scores – Preliminary SOL scores are posted in the “Test History” section of Parent SIS accounts. In order to view the scaled score, you may need to click in the box with the SOL scores and use the scroll bar to view the right-most columns. Full, official score report letters will be added to Parent SIS accounts before the beginning of the school year. Parents can log into their Parent SIS accounts at https://sisparent.fcps.edu/.
- VRSPT - Results for non-SOL tests within the Virginia Assessment Program will be centrally mailed to families by the start of the 2021-22 school year. This includes the new Virginia Remote Student Progress Test (VRSPT) for grades 3-8.
Schoology Learning Management System
|
The new learning management system is Schoology (pronounced /SKOO-luh-jee/). Schoology is a learning space that enhances communication, collaboration, and personalized learning for students, teachers, and families. Schoology will be used division-wide starting in July.
Schoology was chosen to:
- Support and implement instructional practices aligned to our learning model.
- Help students reach the Portrait of a Graduate goals.
- Provide all students with equitable access to meaningful learning experiences.
- Offer anytime access to their virtual learning space.
Students will have a Schoology account.
- Students use their FCPS student ID and password to login to Schoology.
- Students will not see any classes until the grading period starts.
As a parent or guardian, you will be able to use Schoology to view:
- Your child’s class.
- Your child’s assignments and participation.
- Your child’s calendar.
- Teacher comments, scores, and feedback.
Parent accounts will be available at the start of the grading period. To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account.
- Please contact Sarah Fuller, slfuller@fcps.edu, to activate a new SIS/ParentVUE account.
Please review these resources to learn more about Schoology:

Back to School Q&A
Thank you to all the families, staff and caregivers that joined us for our return to school information sessions last week. All families received an email following the information session with a copy of the slides along with a link to watch the presentation in video format. We appreciate the thoughtful questions that were presented and are happy to provide further information and clarification regarding the return to school.
General Topics
Will there be hot lunch served this year?
The lunch line is OPEN this year! Hot lunches will be served free of charge to students that choose to get a school lunch. A la carte options will be available later in the year for purchase but will be a limited selection. When students go through the lunch line, they are required to keep their mask on. They will be able to remove their masks only when actively eating and drinking.
How many students will be in the cafeteria at one time and how will social distancing to the maximum extent possible work in the cafeteria?
Our extended lunch schedule, 10:30am - 1:30pm, will allow us to limit the number of classes occupying the cafeteria and provide close adult supervision to ensure that students adhere to the mitigation strategies. The cafeteria will never be over half capacity to allow for students to sit in assigned seats utilizing every other seat.
Classes will remain together during lunch at assigned tables. Seating charts will be provided to minimize the number of close contacts while masks are removed.
Students will sanitize their hands immediately upon entering the cafeteria as well as when they exit.
Cafeteria spaces will be regularly and thoroughly cleaned by adults with a sanitizing solution.
Food and Nutrition Services is working closely with the Fairfax County Health Department to make sure that proper safety and sanitization is taking place daily.
Will my child be able to opt out of eating in the cafeteria and eat in the classroom or outside instead?
If you have concerns about your child eating lunch in the cafeteria, please reach out to the school directly. We are dedicated to working together with families to provide a safe and healthy environment.
Where will my student sit in the classroom?
Teachers will provide students with an assigned work space in the classroom.
How will health and safety protocols be followed in classrooms with students eating snacks and the free grab and go breakfast if they choose?
Each teacher will develop a plan that provides for social distancing while students are actively eating or drinking.
Will there be field trips, or extracurricular activities available this year?
The Fairview PTA is exploring options for after school activities in partnership with outside organizations. At this time, in-person field trips are not being organized.
Will students be able to use equipment at recess?
Students will be able to use the playground apparatus as well as other playground equipment (non-porous) such as basketballs, jump ropes and soccer balls. One grade level will be outside at a time. While masks are not required outside at this time, students may choose to wear a mask. Students and staff will be required to sanitize their hands before and after recess. Recess equipment will be sanitized daily.
Can the PTA buy air purifiers for classrooms?
Ventilation rates from each school have been reviewed and confirmed. FCPS’ design standards meet the recommended amounts of outside air ventilation. Additionally, maintenance technicians have confirmed that all schools are following the manufacturer’s design specifications.
Is there a nationwide virtual option for my student if they cannot attend physically because of the virus?
The application window for the FCPS Virtual Program closed May 28. All students with a documented health or medical need were offered the opportunity to apply for the Virtual Program this spring. Any families new to FCPS with a child with a documented COVID-related health or medical need will be offered this opportunity when they register.
The Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics supported a return to in-person learning for Virginia’s students, saying, “Returning to in-person learning, with well thought out mitigation strategies, is the right prescription for our children.” FCPS is committed to and will continue to use layered prevention strategies to ensure the health and safety of all of our students and staff. The division is, of course, continuing to monitor our national, state, and local data.
FCPS is not working with any national virtual program offerings.
Health and Safety Information
What are the conditions for potential temporary COVID-19 Closure?
FCPS is returning strong for five days a week of in-person instruction this fall. Our intent is to remain in-person. However, the reality of the ongoing pandemic means that we must plan for scenarios in which a temporary closure may be necessary to protect student, staff, and community health. You may share the division’s plans with families and staff if you receive questions.
Virginia public schools are required under SB 1303 to provide five days a week of in-person instruction, as directed by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam.
FCPS is committed to continuity of learning during the 2021-22 school year, and the school division is using layered prevention strategies to do everything possible to ensure our schools remain safe, healthy, and open.
For the 2021-22 school year, FCPS will not be using county metrics or transmission rates to adjust operating status. All decisions regarding closure of schools will be made at the direction of the county and state health officials and/or an Executive Order.
FCPS has plans in place to ensure continuity of learning in the event health authorities require a temporary closure to protect the health of students, staff, and the community.
What is the contact tracing plan should a student and staff member be positive for COVID?
Schools will collaborate with state and local health departments, to the extent allowable by privacy laws and other applicable laws to confidentially provide information about people diagnosed with or exposed to COVID-19. This allows identifying which students, teachers, and staff with positive COVID-19 test results should isolate, and which close contacts should quarantine.
Should an individual or group be directed to quarantine, plans are in place to ensure continuity of learning.
What percentage of the staff is vaccinated?
We are not privy to this information about Fairview staff.
What symptoms qualify as COVID symptoms? If a child has seasonal allergies (cough/runny nose) would they need to stay home until the symptoms are clear? If a child displays symptoms of COVID are they required to get a COVID test?
Students, teachers, and staff should stay home when they have signs of any infectious illness and be referred to their healthcare provider for testing and care.
COVID-19 health screening questions are to be completed daily by a parent/guardian, staff member or essential visitor. Staff and students should remain at home if ANY of the responses are “YES.” Essential visitors will not be permitted into FCPS facilities if any of the responses are “YES.”
If your child demonstrates covid-like symptoms during the school day, you will be contacted to pick-up your student within the hour. The Public Health Nurse or Health Room Aide will provide you with the return to school guidance.
If a child is sent home with symptoms can they continue to learn remotely? What happens if another family member is exposed and the family is required to quarantine, will the students be able to get classwork from the teacher?
FCPS has plans in place to ensure continuity of learning. You may access those plans here.
