Dear Families,
This extra issue of News You Choose serves to introduce our classroom teacher teams for the 2021-2022 school year. Our regular issue will come out Monday.
I also wanted to drop a quick note to the families unable to attend Open House next Friday. While we cannot replicate the opportunity to visit the physical classroom, we will have a virtual Back to School night in late September during which you will learn more about classroom practices. We are also working to provide families not in attendance with virtual access to the Health and Safety presentation.
If you do attend Open House next Friday, you will be asked to sign into your child's classroom to provide us necessary information for contact tracing. This information will also help alert our staff to the students who might need a bit more support navigating to the classroom Monday morning.
Finally, I wanted to thank the PTA for hosting our Popsicles on the Playground Event. We had nearly 100 students and their families attend! It was so wonderful to meet so many of you.
Warm regards,
Diane Leipzig, Dr. L Principal

 Nichole Beheiter, Kindergarten
My name is Nichole Beheiter (pronounced “bee-hider”). I always tell my students I like to hide bees, so you will find bees all over my classroom! I have been teaching for 10 years. I love animals, especially my two dogs, Sofy and Basil. I love drinking coffee and eating sweets. I like to do arts and crafts in the classroom as well as in my free time at home. I am excited to be joining the Canterbury Woods family!
 Noelle Branch, Grade 4
Hi there! I am so eager to be joining Canterbury Woods staff this fall as a 4th grade teacher! A little about me: I grew up in Leesburg, Virginia in the Loudoun County Public School system and am a double UVA graduate—go Hoos! A few of my favorite things include reading, knitting, hiking, biking, and binge-watching TV shows. I can't wait to join the Canterbury Woods E.S. community.
 Marcela Tate, Grade 4 AAP
Hello! I am very excited to join Canterbury Woods Elementary School this year as a fourth grade teacher. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know everyone in the school community. To give you some brief information about myself, this will be my fifth year teaching elementary school and fourth year in fourth grade. I am married and have a daughter named Mia. I was born in Honduras, raised in North Carolina, and have recently moved back to Virginia after three years in Hawaii. My hobbies include reading, hiking, watching movies, and traveling. I love teaching and aim to learn and grow as an educator with every passing year. I can’t wait to get started and hope to make this school year the best one yet!
 Tina Seo, Grade 5 AAP
Hello everyone! I am so excited to be joining the Canterbury Woods family this year. I grew up in the Woodson neighborhood, so I am thrilled to be starting my teaching career here. I graduated from Cornell for my undergrad, and I am currently finishing up my master's from George Mason this summer. Some things that I enjoy are traveling, being a foodie, snowboarding, taking pictures, and painting. Also, a fun fact - Mindy Milliron was my 4th grade teacher! I am looking forward to joining the community and meeting you all soon!
 Carly Voeller, Grade 5
Hi, my name is Carly and I am so excited to be a part of the CWES community! I was born and raised in Fairfax County, and this will be my fourth year teaching in FCPS. I went to Virginia Tech for undergrad and received my Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins. In my free time I enjoy being outdoors, watching sports, spending time with my two cats, and playing board games, but my favorite thing to do is travel and explore the world! This summer I spent 6 weeks in Tanzania, and it was an incredible experience!
 Stacey Diapoulis, Grade 5 AAP
Hi CWES! I am so excited to be returning to Canterbury Woods for the upcoming school year. I taught 4th and 5th grade AAP at CWES from 2015-2019 then moved to Arizona for my fiancée to pursue his MBA degree. After two years teaching in AZ and exploring the Southwest, we're coming back to Virginia! The community and staff at CWES have always been incredibly special to me and I'm thrilled to be back!
 Wendy Schudmak, Grade 6 AAP
Originally from New Orleans (Go Saints!), I live in the Del Ray section of Alexandria with my dog Cooper. This will be my 22nd (gasp!) year of teaching and third year as a 6th grade teacher. In my free time I enjoy traveling internationally (hopefully again soon!), exploring new places with friends, and spending time with my nieces and my dog.
I am excited to be joining the team at CW as a 6th grade AAP teacher!
Abby Struse, Grade 6
I am excited to be joining the Canterbury Woods community! I am originally from Baltimore, Maryland and have taught in Prince George’s County, MD, Arlington, VA and now Fairfax County. I have had the unique experience of teaching 6th grade in both elementary school and middle school. I have a master’s degree in Educational Technology, and I love using technology to help students create! When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with husband and our two children, reading books, and baking.
