Principal's Message

Dear Shrevewood Family,

We hope that this letter finds each of you enjoying the last weeks of your summer break and that you have found time to relax, spend time with family and friends, and perhaps even get in some traveling.  We are very much looking forward to reconnecting with each of you and hearing about your adventures!

As a reminder, all students will start school in-person on Monday, August 23. We are excited to see all our students!

As we begin the 2021-2022 school year, our commitment to you is to maintain our efforts on our core beliefs as a school of Family, Excellence, and Relationships. Our school improvement plan is finished, and we are continuing to stay focused on high-quality tier 1 instruction, continuing to develop our strong collaborative learning teams and ensuring that we have a positive, equitable, caring culture at Shrevewood Elementary School.  As we continue with the Portrait of a Graduate as our vision for our students in FCPS, we seek innovative ways to develop our students into communicators, collaborators, global citizens, creative and critical thinkers and goal-directed and resilient individuals. We will renew our commitment to high levels of student engagement in the classroom with a focus on the workshop model for reading, writing and math.  We are also excited about continuing our efforts as a Positivity Project school.  As a Positivity Project school, we will continue to teach our students how to identify, appreciate, and articulate the character strengths in themselves and others.

Today, we welcomed back our entire staff to begin our work together and prepare for our students to come back in-person on August 23. They will be participating in professional development on engaging instruction, relationship building (commitment to connecting with each individual child), and technology fluency.

Below is an outline of the important dates for information about the start to the school year. We look forward to connecting with our families through our in-person open house and virtual Back to School Night September 2.

Sincerely,

Joshua DeSmyter & Katie Vandawalker

Shrevewood Staff Spotlight

abigail zarro

Hi! My name is Abigail Zarro. I am 23 years old and graduated from Penn State in 2020. We Are!! This will be my second year teaching. I am originally from Bucks County, PA, but I have decided to move on down to Arlington, VA for the wonderful opportunity to work in FCPS. When I'm not teaching, some of my favorite things to do are exercise, listen to music, and lounge on the beach. I also love to be surrounded by friends! Although I am sad to leave my Kindergarteners and hometown behind in PA, I am overwhelmed with excitement to build new relationships with the students, staff, and parents of the Shrevewood Elementary community 😄

Beginning of the Year Forms

Complete Emergency Care Card now Electronically in weCare

In ParentVUE, on August 19th, you can access the weCare module to update emergency care information and health information.  Each school year parents need to verify the information in weCare for each student.  We are required to have this completed at the start of each school year to meet regulations. Forms are due by August 23, 2021.

There are other forms linked below that parents may print and drop off in the main office or send with your child. Questions related to any forms may be directed to our Registrar, Maria Giuliani (mggiuliani@fcps.edu).

Digital Tools Parental Consent

parental consent

At Shrevewood Elementary, our teachers use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families.

Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here.

Included on this page is also a 🔗 link to a form 🔗 where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission.

Please reach out to our School Based Technology Specialist, Kim Paska Negro (kpaska@fcps.edu) if you have any questions.  THANK YOU!
