Springfield Estates ES News You Choose #3 - August 9, 2021

Dear Eagle families,

On behalf of the entire staff at Springfield Estates Elementary School (SEES), we would like to welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year!  We hope you enjoyed a safe and relaxing summer vacation filled with fun and exciting memories.  We are all excited to have students back filling our classrooms with energy and enthusiasm for learning.

Our goal is to support and encourage each child to find, develop, and explore their talents and gifts.  If there is something that may impact your child’s success or focus during the school day, please communicate this to your child’s teacher, the school counselor, either one of us, or any other staff member.  We are all here to support you and your student(s) in the pursuit of excellence.

Being actively involved in your child’s education is essential in developing a strong partnership between home and school.  We anticipate having many volunteer opportunities available, and we hope to see a lot of you throughout the school year!   We are a school where everyone shares in the responsibility for the success of each of our students – “Together We Soar-Higher!”

As our countdown to school begins, we hope that you will continue to read with your child daily, ask them questions about what they have read, and have fun!

With Eagle Pride,

Mrs. Contreras, Principal

Ms. Martin, Assistant Principal

Open House 2021

Open House -- Friday, August 20, 2021

Students are invited, along with a parent/guardian, to find and visit their classrooms this day.  Please attend one session based on last name: 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM (Last names A-M) or 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM (Last names N-Z): You will also be able to locate your child’s teacher using your ParentVUE account on the morning of August 19, 2021.  Class lists will not be posted publicly.  Class assignments may be adjusted through the month of August if we continue to have changes to our student enrollment. Your child’s teacher will also reach out to you through email to welcome you and your student to the classroom community prior to Open House.

First Day of School -- Monday, August 23, 2021

School starts at 9:20 AM and ends at 4:05 PM.  Our staff will be available to answer questions and help students find their room on the first day of school (parents will not be able to walk students directly to class).   This is a full day of school.

Arrival and Dismissal

With so many children coming and leaving school at the same time, please use the following protocols to help keep everyone safe!  As you make travel plans, please note that we expect students to be sitting in their classroom, ready to learn, when the bell rings at 9:20 AM.  Students can enter the building starting at 9:00 AM.

  • Walkers: Students who live within one mile of school are considered walkers.  Crossing guards are located at both ends of Deepford Street to ensure safe crossing.
    • New this year! Kindergarten walker students will enter by the playground at Door #9.
    • New this year! All other walkers will enter through Door #7 (near our fields/art rooms).
  • Kiss & Ride: Parents who drive their children to school must use the Kiss & Ride line (via Deepford Street behind our school) through our side parking lot, dropping students off on the sidewalk beside Door #6. DO NOT drop-off (or pick-up) students on neighborhood streets – it is not safe.
  • Buses: Students who ride buses will be delivered to the front door of the school.  Bus route information has been sent directly to families by the Transportation Department.  If this information is not correct for your student, please reach out to our office immediately. We strongly encourage families to help students become familiar with their bus stop location prior to the first day of school.
  • Departures: It is CRITICAL that your child and your child’s teacher know how they are being dismissed. Please note that time-sensitive dismissal changes are best via a handwritten note or a phone call to our front office (our teachers typically check email at the beginning and end of the school day).

Masks

FCPS requires all staff and students to wear a mask while indoors.  Masks should fit snugly and cover the nose and mouth. Students may remove their mask while actively eating or drinking in the cafeteria and while playing on the playground or during outdoor PE.

Staying Healthy

If your child or a family member is experiencing Covid-19 like symptoms, we ask that you do not send your child to school. You can learn more about how we are keeping our Eagles safe here.

Breakfast and Lunch

Breakfast and lunch will continue to be free for all students through the 2021-2022 school year.  Breakfast and lunch menus, as well as nutritional information, can be found here.

School Supplies

A list of recommended supplies is available on our school website.  We also encourage each child to bring a refillable water bottle every day.
