Welcome our new Family Liaison, Marita Collins!

Marita Collins

Dear Graham Road Families, 

Marita Collins is a bilingual professional with over 20 years of experience working as a key liaison and coordination in multicultural environments with people of diverse backgrounds in the United States and other countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe.

Marita initially relocated to the United States from Peru in 1991 and lived in California for 4 years where she was granted a scholarship from Sonoma State University in the Special International Student Program.  She continued her studies at Hartnell College. She also worked for Salinas Union High School District, as the Bilingual Assistant for the Bilingual Special Projects Program supporting also teachers, parents working with an array of educational needs and activities.

Marita’s has always been interested in mission-driven organizations where her efforts can contribute to society so in 1994 after relocating to the DC area Marita joined the workforce of three main global organizations dedicated to the protection of our planet biodiversity and the environment (The Nature Conservancy, Conservation International, and World Wildlife Fund).  She developed a fulfilling career growth in administration, human resources, and operations as a Bilingual Assistant, Program Coordinator, Executive Assistant, HR Coordinator, Human Resources and Operations Manager, and Coordinator for the VP office for Latin America and the Caribbean.  During her HR and Ops tenure, she obtained a license as a Professional in Human Resources from HR Institute and the Society of Human Resources Management.  Marita also obtained Certificate studies in HR & Management of Organizations from the University of Virginia and George Mason University.

Besides her experience as a language translator and interpretations, Marita also participated in organizational change and restructuring process, and decentralization of international operations.

Marita has a son who will be soon attending 11th grade in our FCPS.  Marita likes the outdoors and besides aerobics and dance she has been practicing yoga, mindfulness meditation, and enjoys art and music.
