Returning Strong / Free Breakfast And Lunch For All FCPS Students

FCPS is ready for a strong return to school on August 23. The Return to School webpage and FAQs webpage are regularly updated with the latest return to school information.

  • What will school meals look like this fall?

When we return strong this fall, FCPS’ Food and Nutrition Services staff will be ready to serve healthy meals to students and staff. This year, all students receive FREE breakfast and lunch. Find out more about school meals here.

  • Looking for bus stop and route information?

Bus stops and route information will be shared with families via the ParentVue accounts on August 10. All staff and students riding a bus will be required to wear a mask. For more information about bus transportation, including how to access the Bus Delay Notification System, visit the Transportation page.

  • What safety protocols will be in place for fall sports?

The return to school brings a return to fall sports. As with our entire return to school plan, safety is our top priority as we plan for fall sports to resume. The health and safety protocols in place this fall include universal masking when indoors. To review all the safety protocols, including water, screening, equipment, and reporting, read more.

Health And Safety

The Return to School- Safety web page is a helpful resource for all the information about our safe return to school.

FAQs about the return to school are posted and will be updated as needed.

Note the indoor face mask requirements for staff in schools:

  • Indoors - adults only present - face masks are strongly recommended for vaccinated individuals. If someone is not vaccinated, face masks are required.
  • Indoors with students present - face masks are required for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.
  • FCPS Offices (Gatehouse/Willow Oaks) - adults only present - face masks are strongly recommended for vaccinated individuals. If someone is not vaccinated, face masks are required. We are keeping an eye out for any changes to the masking guidance coming out of the Governor’s office and will adjust our masking guidance in line with any changes we see at the local, state or national level. In the meantime, we are aware that the Delta variant is seeing transmission rates rise in our area and we want to encourage staff to do their part.
  • Vax Up!

The most effective tool for preventing the spread of COVID-19 is widespread vaccination. FCPS is encouraging, but not requiring, all eligible students, staff, and family members to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Visit one of our school vaccination clinics or make an appointment to be vaccinated.

Cultural Observances and Religious Holidays

The Fairfax County School Board voted to approve a calendar for the 2021-22 School Year that is designed to recognize, respect, and honor the plurality of religious and cultural observances in Fairfax County.

The calendar ensures students will not have to make choices between honoring their cultural or religious beliefs and missing a test or school activity.

On the 15 observance days listed below, Cameron Elementary] will not schedule tests or quizzes. Tests and quizzes will be given before any of these days, so students are not expected to study on the observance day.

In addition, Cameron Elementary will not schedule events including field trips, graduation, homecoming, or FCPS- scheduled athletic events on any of the 15 observance days.

The calendar recognizes 15 diverse religious and cultural observances including:

  • Eid al-Adha
  • Rosh Hashanah
  • Yom Kippur
  • Día de los Muertos
  • Diwali
  • Bodhi Day
  • Three Kings Day/Epiphany
  • Orthodox Christmas
  • Orthodox Epiphany
  • Lunar New Year
  • Ramadan
  • Good Friday
  • Theravada
  • Orthodox Good Friday/Last Night of Passover
  • Eid al-Fitr

The 2021-22 calendar also separates spring break from any religious or cultural observances.
