Spring Hill ES Panther Press

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Spring Hill Families,

We continue to prepare for our staff and students’ return in just a few weeks. We are excited to host Kindergarten and First grade playdates on August 10th and 11th from 5:00 - 6:30 PM, respectively. Our New Family/Student Orientation is scheduled for August 18th and Open House on August 19th. During open house, students will meet administrators, counselors, teachers and have an opportunity to explore the school building. As a reminder, per FCPS, masks must be worn indoors at all schools, regardless of vaccination status.

As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to me at mveck@fcps.edu.

FCPS Returning Strong: 2021-22 School Year to Start on Monday, August 23

FCPS has been planning for the return to school since spring, and we cannot wait to have students back in classrooms five days a week! You can prepare for a strong start to the school year by visiting the Return to School page, frequently checking the Return to School FAQs, and reading FCPS This Week for the latest information. Here are five things you need to know this week:

Returning Strong: Health and Safety

Our focus is on creating a safe and healthy learning environment for students to learn together in classrooms all year. We will achieve this through layered prevention strategies, including universal masking in school buildings and widespread vaccination. The Return to School-Safety page has all the details about our safety strategy.

The two most important elements of FCPS’ layered prevention strategy are universal masking and widespread vaccination. We have more details about both, including the dates for our school vaccination clinics at the bottom of this newsletter.

Returning Strong: Academics and Social-Emotional Supports

Teachers and staff will be prepared to address and support students’ specific needs when the new school year begins on August 23. A full Academic Support Plan, tied to FCPS’ proposed ESSER III spending plan—which was based on community feedback—will be a significant investment of funding and resources that will ensure our students have the academic and social-emotional supports they need to thrive this school year and beyond. The final ESSER III spending plan will be approved by the School Board at their Board meeting on August 26 and we will share the details with you once it has been approved.

Returning Strong: Transportation

Bus stops and route information will be shared with families via ParentVue accounts on August 10. Please be aware that all students will be required to wear a mask when riding a school bus or using school transportation.

Returning Strong: Free Meals

When we return strong this fall, FCPS’ Food and Nutrition Services staff will be ready to serve healthy meals to students and staff. This year, all students will receive free breakfast and lunch. Find out more about school meals.

Digital Resources

Fairfax County Public Schools uses a variety of resources to support student learning. In cases where FCPS contracts with a vendor to host student information, FCPS requires that the vendor adhere to the security and privacy requirements specified in a confidentiality agreement included in their contracts. FCPS does not have contracts with every instructional tool vendor.  Many valuable instructional tools are governed by Terms of Service (TOS) and include both free and paid tools. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year require parental consent.

You can find more information about FCPS’ commitment to student privacy at Digital Privacy in FCPS and a list of all approved digital tools is viewable online in the FCPS Digital Ecosystem Library which has links to the vendors’ privacy notices and other useful information.

Digital Resources at Spring Hill  lists the digital tools that are used at our school that require parental approval, and not all tools will be used by every student. The tools have been carefully reviewed to ensure that they align with the FCPS Learning Model and FCPS conducts the same technical evaluations for all products that use student information.

To provide your parental consent for each student in your family, please follow this link and follow the provided directions starting on August 11. (The form will not be live before then).

5 day

Important Information about the 2021-2022 School Year

FCPS and Spring Hill are excited to welcome students and staff back in-person 5 days a week for the 2021-2022 school year.

  • FCPS shared information earlier this week that all staff and students will wear masks at all times indoors and on school buses in the fall. Masks will not be required when eating or when outside during recess, PE, or other activities. Universal masking is a critical safety mitigation factor in ensuring all students can return to our buildings, especially when social distancing is not possible and not all our students are eligible for vaccinations.
  • Spring Hill Bell Schedule: 8:50 a.m. -3:35 p.m. Monday-Friday

Breakfast and lunch are available each day and the menu will be available at FCPS Nutrislice- Spring Hill
