Welcome to 2021-2022 School Year

Dear Marshall Road Families,

We hope you have had an amazing summer!  We are excited about the upcoming school year and we can’t wait to see your children walk through our doors on August 23!  Our bell schedule for this year will be 9:20 am (students may enter the building beginning at 9:05 am) – 4:05 pm.

We would like to invite you and your children to come to our Open House on Friday, August 20 to visit the classroom and meet your teacher.  We are staggering the visits to reduce the number of people in the building.  As such, we are asking that you attend at the time designated by the first letter of your last name below.  Please make sure both you and your children are wearing a mask.

9:00-9:45 am – A - I

10:00–10:45 am - J – R

11:00–11:45 am – S – Z

We would also like to invite our rising Kindergarten, 1st graders and students new to MRES to tour the building on August 6, 9 or 13 at 9:00 am (please choose one date).  We hope this visit will help your children feel more comfortable navigating the building on their first day of school.  There will be many staff members throughout the building helping students find their classrooms the first week of school.

Our Back to School Night will take place on Thursday, September 2 with staggered times by grade.  We are encouraging one parent/guardian to attend to help reduce the number of people in the building.  Curriculum information will be posted on the school website prior to BTSN if you are unable to attend.  This evening is for parents and guardian only.  Once again, masks are required.

K-1: 5:00-5:45 pm

2-3: 6:00-6:45 pm

4-6: 7:00-7:45 pm

Below is some important information to help you and your children prepare for the first day of school.

  • FPCS will begin the school year with universal masking.  Masks will be worn at all times by staff and students indoors and on school buses but are not required when eating or when outside during recess, PE, or other activities.  Universal masking is a critical factor in ensuring all students can return to our buildings, especially when social distancing is not possible and not all our students are eligible for vaccinations.  FCPS will be regularly reviewing their masking practices in line with updates to national, state, and local health recommendations.  Find out why we are starting the school year with universal masking
  • We will be sending out a weekly communication called the “Roadrunner Rundown” on Monday afternoons that will include important information from our school and PTA.  Please make sure we have your current email address in order to receive these communications.  Contact the main office if you are not receiving this weekly News You Choose email, which will begin early in the school year.  Previous issues of our “Roadrunner Rundown” can be found on our website.
  • Teacher Assignments will be posted in Parent Vue on August 19.  If your child is new to FCPS you will receive a mailing between August 11-13 that will give you information about how to set up your Parent Vue account.  If you have been in FCPS but do not have an account set up or are having trouble accessing your account, please call the main office at 703-937-1500 for assistance.
  • Bus Assignments and pick-up/drop-off locations will be available in Parent Vue after August 10.
  • School Supply Lists can be found on our website here.  Supplies can be brought to school at Open House or on the first day of school.
  • Important reminder for families NEW to FCPS or students entering kindergarten: proof of vaccines and a physical exam are required before your student can start school August 23.  If you have not submitted this documentation yet, your registration is NOT complete.  Please contact our school Registrar, Shelly Koshuta, to discuss a plan.  She may be reached at 703-937-1551 or mmarcumkoshu@fcps.edu.  Here is the link to the FCPS Immunizations Requirements.

We are beyond excited to welcome many new teachers and staff members to MRES this year.  We are most thrilled to have your children join us for 5 days a week beginning August 23, 2021.
