As we approach the One Month Mark before the new school year starts on Monday, Aug 23rd, I want to provide Braddock District families with New or Previously Enrolled Student Registration information. I also want to provide information about COVID-19 vaccinations for students who are 12 years of age and older.

COVID-19 VACCINES

BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS

To ensure students are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to the start of the 2021-22 school year, parents need to act now.

It typically takes five weeks to be fully vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine. This is the only vaccine currently available for adolescents aged 12 to 17 years of age.

WHY GET YOUR CHILD VACCINATED?

To protect your child from COVID-19, limit the spread of illness, and make schools safer for everybody, adolescents 12 and older are encouraged to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

In addition, those who are fully vaccinated do not have to quarantine if they are exposed to someone with COVID-19. This helps prevent students from missing school, sporting events, and/or other social activities due to a COVID-19 exposure.

Why Get Your Child Vaccinated

The COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. The vaccines have been administered to millions of people under the most intensive safety monitoring in history, which includes studies in adolescents.

Talk to your child’s health care provider. If you child needs other school-required vaccinations in order to start the new school year, your child may get a COVID-19 vaccine along with other vaccines during the same office visit.

FCPS SCHOOL-BASED VACCINE CLINICS

FCPS has been hosting school-based clinics in partnership with the Fairfax County Health Department.

Children who are 12 and older may receive their first or second dose at the following COVID vaccine clinics:

The school-based COVID-19 vaccine clinics are for adolescents 12-17 years of age. To make an appointment for your child, visit the Vaccine Administration Management System (VAMS).

Each school clinic site also offers walk-in options, during their hours of operation.

These events will be the last opportunity for students to be vaccinated at a school-based clinic, before school starts.
