Laptop return

URGENT MESSAGE!

If you have not returned your child's laptop, It is urgent that your child’s equipment be returned to Rachel Carson Middle School as soon as possible during the school’s summer office hours. The summer office hours are 9-1pm, Monday through Friday. Please come to door #1. 

Students participating in summer online programs may retain their laptop and return them at the completion of their program.

Important Immunization Requirement: Do You Have a Student Entering Seventh Grade This Fall?

While the COVID-19 vaccination is NOT required by schools for the 2021-22 school year, many other vaccinations are.

Seventh-grade students need:

  • One dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) given at age 7 or older.
  • One dose of Meningococcal Vaccine (MenACWY, Menactra, or Menveo) given at age 10 or older.

Parent Help Desk Summer Hour- Reduced hours

The Parent Technology Help Desk will continue to support parents and students through the summer months.

Beginning on Monday, June 14, we are moving the service to our in-house Service Desk. The phone number for parents will stay the same -  833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) - and the reduced hours for summer are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday in June, July and early August. Outside of those hours, parents can also visit the Parent and Student IT Support Portal to find self-help resources or submit a tech support request ticket.

FCPS Transitions to Schoology Learning Management System on July 1

Fairfax County Public Schools’ contract with Blackboard ends on June 30. The new learning management system is Schoology (pronounced /SKOO-luh-jee/). Schoology is a learning space that enhances communication, collaboration, and personalized learning for students, teachers, and families. Schoology will be used division-wide starting in July.

Schoology was chosen to: 

  • Support and implement instructional practices aligned to our learning model.  
  • Help students reach the Portrait of a Graduate goals.
  • Provide all students with equitable access to meaningful learning experiences.
  • Offer anytime access to their virtual learning space.

Students will have a Schoology account by June 18.

  • Students use their FCPS student ID and password to login to Schoology.
  • Students will not see any classes until the grading period starts.

As a parent or guardian, you will be able to use Schoology to view:

  • Your child’s class. 
  • Your child’s assignments and participation.
  • Your child’s calendar.
  • Teacher comments, scores, and feedback.

Parent accounts will be available in mid-August. To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account.

Student Pictures- Pick Up

If you ordered Picture-Day pictures for your student, please see the information below.

  • In-Person Students: Pictures for in-person students were distributed through their Panther Time Connections class. If they did not receive it in their class, please have your student check in the main office.
  • Virtual-Only Students: If your virtual-only student took a picture and you ordered, you may pick up their packets from school. If you did not order, you may still pick up the proof and order through the information in the proof packet. Please come to Entrance #1, Monday-Friday 9:00a.m-1:00p.m. Please tell us your student's name and that you are picking up their pictures. A staff member will bring them out to you.

If you want to view your student’s picture proofs but do not want to come to school to pick them up, please contact LifeTouch customer Service at 1800-736-4753.

  Veda Murthy ( 7th Grader -  Rising 8th ) from Rachel Carson Middle School as part of CQuestrators  has reached ECybermission Finals competition ( https://static.nsta.org/ecybermission-files/2021%20National%20Finalists%20List.pdf ). There is a National Show case where CQuestrators will be presenting their project/solution to family and friends which will be streamed live. There is also a people's choice Award Voting on Friday that the public can vote.

Chantilly High School Dance Team Green Days & Tryouts

Chantilly High School’s Dance Team Green Days & Tryouts are coming up soon!  Green Days will be every Monday, June 14-July19, in the Chantilly High School’s Cafeteria (Door 11) from 9:30am-11:30am.  Tryouts will be July 26 & 28.  To find out more information about the team and tryout process, students should email Coach Heidi Stafford at chantillydancers@gmail.com.

Chantilly Summer Theater

Chantilly High School is thrilled to offer the Chantilly Summer Theatre program this July! This program is open to ANY rising 8th – 12th graders, and the performance offers a multitude of opportunities for student technicians and performers. Westfield High School Boys Basketball

Westfield will be conducting Basketball workouts for rising freshman on Mondays,  from 1:30 to 3pm and Wednesday’s from 5pm to 6:30pm.

Under the leadership of our South Lakes High School (SLHS) Varsity Head Coaches, South Lakes Booster Club, Inc. is pleased to announce our Summer 2021sports camps programs!  Mark your calendars for June – July 2021, our sports camps are for kids ages 7 – 15 with many sports interests and all skill levels!  

South Lakes High School Junior Seahawk Summer Dance Camp 2021

Dates:  July 21st - 22nd, 2pm-5pm
Performance:  July 23rd, 3:30-6pm
Cost:  $80, includes snacks and drinks for both days of camp, an SLHS Junior Seahawk T-shirt, and 10% off the price of our Winter Dance Clinic
Who Should Attend:  Any dancer age 6+
