Credit Recovery Program/ Summer School

The Credit Recovery Academy/ Summer School is a free opportunity for all FCPS students who need to earn credits classes that they failed during the 2020-2021 school year. There will be two sessions, June 28- July 16 and July 21-August 6th at South Lakes High School from 8am-1pm.  Registration for most classes in session one ends June 21st and July 12 for session two.

Summer Office Hours

Starting Monday, June 21st Herndon High School's summer office hours will be 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The building will be closed on July 5th in observance of the holiday. Please keep in mind that access to the building will be seriously limited throughout the summer due to renovation. Enjoy your summer!


Summer Arts Opportunity

Does your child love the arts?  Are you looking for a wonderful summer enrichment opportunity for them?  Institute for the Arts and Elementary Institute for the Art's registration is open now for students currently in grades 2 through 11.  Don't delay, seats are first come first serve!  Registration closes June 25th.

Summer Meal Bus Routes 

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) buses are delivering meals along some bus routes.  School buses will stop at designated intersections to deliver these meals. 

All FCPS students (regardless of age) are eligible for free grab and go breakfast and lunch, as well as other county children, under the age of 18. Adults picking up meals for children should let staff know how many children meals they need. Adults meals are not available for purchase on bus routes during the summer months.  View bus routes here


Summer Meal Kits

Summer Meal Kits will be offered at the following sites, containing seven (7) days of breakfast and lunch items packed in bulk.  All meals are available at no-cost to FCPS students and children eighteen (18) years of age and under.  Parents/caregivers may pick up for children and adults may purchase kits for $28.00.  Please wear a mask when picking up the meal kits.  

Meal kits will be available for pick up from 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. or until supplies are exhausted.


Second COVID-19 Vaccine

Students who participated in the FCPS COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics for their first Pfizer dose will need a second Pfizer dose to be fully vaccinated.  The earliest a student can get the second dose is 21 days from the date the first dose was received.

FCPS will NOT be providing the second COVID-19 vaccine, but the Fairfax County Health Department has provided instructions on the How To Get Your Child’s Second COVID-19 Vaccine flyer.

  • Vaccine card:  Students will need to bring this vaccination card to the second appointment.
  • Schedule the second COVID-19 vaccine using VAMS
  • Other community vaccine providers:  The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is widely available throughout our community, including private healthcare providers, grocery stores, pharmacies, urgent cares, and Inova.

Student Parking at Herndon High School for 2nd Semester 2021 - 2022 School Year

 Students who are interested in parking on school grounds for the 2021 – 2022 school year, will have to register on the Google Form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc0Wm2RN5Egislpawpf3yRmWInja1DmYgN1t39IWMPLjpX6ow/viewform?usp=sf_link.  Once you have registered on the Google Doc please review, print, and complete the attached parking application/forms (form 1, 2, 3). Bring your completed packet (with parent signatures), a copy of your driver’s license, to the cafeteria on the assigned days.

  • Seniors can pick up parking pass on Tuesday, 8/17 & Wednesday, 8/18 from 12n – 3pm in the main hallway across from the Lecture Hall.
  • Juniors can pick up parking passes on Thursday, 8/19 from 12n – 3pm & Friday, 8/20 from 10am – 12noon pick up on both days will be in the main hallway across from the Lecture Hall.
  • Sophomores can pick up parking passes Friday, 8/20 from 10am – 12noon in the main hallway across from the Lecture Hall.

The cost for parking on school grounds is $200. Each quarter parking fee is reduce by $25.  All vehicles must be registered and a parking permit must be displayed in your windshield at all times between the hours of 7:30am and 2:55pm while school is in session.

Reminder:  students may not park on campus without completing this process. We will continue to review our parking availability and add student parking when possible. 


FCPS Transitions to Schoology Learning Management System on July 1

Fairfax County Public Schools’ contract with Blackboard ends on June 30. The new learning management system is Schoology (pronounced /SKOO-luh-jee/). Schoology is a learning space that enhances communication, collaboration, and personalized learning for students, teachers, and families. Schoology will be used division-wide starting in July.

Schoology was chosen to: 

  • Support and implement instructional practices aligned to our learning model.  
  • Help students reach the Portrait of a Graduate goals.
  • Provide all students with equitable access to meaningful learning experiences.
  • Offer anytime access to their virtual learning space.

Students will have a Schoology account by June 18.

  • Students use their FCPS student ID and password to login to Schoology.
  • Students will not see any classes until the grading period starts.

As a parent or guardian, you will be able to use Schoology to view:

  • Your child’s class. 
  • Your child’s assignments and participation.
  • Your child’s calendar.
  • Teacher comments, scores, and feedback.

Parent accounts will be available in mid-August. To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account.

Fall 2021

The first day of school in the fall will be Monday, August 23. We will be back to a full five-day schedule. School hours will be 8:10 am to 2:55 pm. Details about the start of school, including the red and black calendar, class schedule, laptop pickup, etc., will be emailed in mid-August.

New Immunization Requirement for Rising 12th Graders

There is a new immunization requirement for rising 12th graders for the 2021-2022 school year.  Effective July 1, 2021 all students entering twelfth grade will be required to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) administered at age 16 or older, and prior to the beginning of school.  Twelfth grade students cannot begin school in August without proper Meningococcal documentation. 

Please provide one of the following documents to Herndon High School as soon as possible:

  • An updated immunization record showing that the student has received the Meningococcal vaccine at age 16 or older.
  • A note on a healthcare provider’s letterhead stating the date the Meningococcal vaccine was given at age 16 or older.
  • A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
  • A notarized Religious Exemption Form which is available online at: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/support/health_medical/certificate_religious_exemption.pdf

Immunizations are available from your student's healthcare provider or the Fairfax County Health Department. The Health Department clinic locations and hours are available online at: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/health/immunization/school or by calling 703-246-2411.
