Happy Summer!

Dear Dogwood Families,

We've made it through a school year of many shifts and changes.  We are incredibly proud of the resilience your children have shown and how much they were still able to grow and learn online and in person.  Best wishes for future success to our Dogwood Dragons Class of 2021!

We look forward to seeing everyone back in the building next year as we return to 5 days a week.  This will be a new normal, but we are diligently working this summer to ensure we have the right supports in place to get students back into the building and help them adjust back to being in school.

Take the time this summer for screen breaks and getting outdoors.  Encourage your child to read this summer and use the "Summer Workbooks" that will be provided through the county.  We know this year was difficult and we hope that continued reading and the summer workbooks will help support your child over the summer.

Thank-you for your continued support throughout this school year!  Please look for news over the summer for special Welcome Back Information and dates!

Have a wonderful summer.  See you in August.

Dogwood Principal Selection Process

An important first step in the process is to inform staff, parents, and community members about the principal selection process.  For this meeting, we will have interpreters available for translation services. All staff, parents, and community members are invited to attend an important meeting on Tuesday, June 15 at 5:30 p.m. This will not be a face-to face meeting. We will use Blackboard Collaborate Ultra to connect virtually. Blackboard Collaborate Ultra works best using a Chrome browser. We certainly hope you will be able to attend this meeting.

FCPS Transitions to Schoology Learning Management System on July 1

Fairfax County Public Schools’ contract with Blackboard ends on June 30. The new learning management system is Schoology (pronounced /SKOO-luh-jee/). Schoology is a learning space that enhances communication, collaboration, and personalized learning for students, teachers, and families. Schoology will be used division-wide starting in July. https://www.fcps.edu/schoology

Schoology was chosen to:

  • Support and implement instructional practices aligned to our learning model.
  • Help students reach the Portrait of a Graduate goals.
  • Provide all students with equitable access to meaningful learning experiences.
  • Offer anytime access to their virtual learning space.

Students will have a Schoology account by June 18.

  • Students use their FCPS student ID and password to login to Schoology.
  • Students will not see any classes until the grading period starts.

As a parent or guardian, you will be able to use Schoology to view:

  • Your child’s class.
  • Your child’s assignments and participation.
  • Your child’s calendar.
  • Teacher comments, scores, and feedback.

Parent accounts will be available in mid-August. To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account.
