Play games as a family! Let your child be the banker in games like Monopoly and the score keeper in card games like Spades and Canasta. Set the technology tools aside for fun with board games and card games!

Cooking with kids! Did you know cooking and baking is a fabulous way for your child to learn measurement concepts? Recipes are rich with fractions, weight, volume and capacity concepts. Cooking is a hands-on experience of math in action.

Grocery Store Explorations! Enjoy the air condition on a hot summer day and take some extra time at the grocery store just to do math. Use the scales in the produce department. Discuss unit rates and do price comparisons on products of different sizes. Keep a mental estimated total. See who comes closest to the actual total at checkout! Talk about decimals and money. Calculate change when using cash.  Combine cooking and shopping by planning a meal or party, estimating the costs, and doing the shopping! So many possibilities for bringing math to life!

Talking Tips! Dining out this summer? Make it your student’s job to calculate the tip. Younger students can do estimates with 10% while older students can do more complex computations like 18%. Teach your child your personal tricks for calculating the tip in different scenarios.
