Eagle Families,
We did it! We survived and thrived during a pandemic with your children and your support. Thank you is not enough for us to express how much we appreciate your assistance getting students up for class, on time to class (virtually), on time to the building, and now preparing many of them for summer work. If there was a word beyond thank you that expressed our gratitude, we would write it in the sky with an airplane doing flips over your homes!
We ended our school year with much fun and dancing in the cafeteria during lunches today. It has been a strange last two school years, with our 8th graders leaving for the last time in the rain on buses full of giggles and smiles (even if behind a mask). We wish them the very best as they venture onto Fairfax High School. We are confident they will go on to do great things having been a personal witness to their resiliency and perseverance these last two school years.
For our 7th graders, welcome back in the fall as the leaders at THE Katherine Johnson Middle School. We are excited to show you what middle school has in store as things return to five days of in-person instruction with more normal school activities resuming. You will love it here even more now than you did. We know that you will lead the way into greatness as you demonstrate our SOAR traits for our new 7th graders.
In closing, join me in congratulating, Kathryn Teague our the Fairfax County Public Schools Outstanding Leader of the Year. Under her bold and creative leadership, we have implemented several successful master schedules this past year. We are lucky to have such a talented, dedicated, and professional colleague that we can also call friend at KJMS. Please congratulate her the next time you see her.
Happy summer! Stay safe from sunburn and cicadas, enjoy time with family and friends, and enjoy this time away from devices!
Stay safe,
Tammy Hanna Silipigni, Principal
Lanier (soon to be Katherine Johnson) Middle School

Attendance Items
- Please remember to inform the school if your student is going to be virtual on an in-person day. It is important that we know why they are learning from home so their attendance can be noted correctly. Please use the attendance form or call the attendance line at 703-934-2424.
- If a student needs to miss any class time at all, be it one period or a full day, parents or guardians should always report the specific details of the absence to the LMS attendance line or form.
- Teachers do not have access to mark a student excused for an absence, which is why it is important that parents notify the school in addition to the teacher so your child's attendance record is marked correctly.
