Sangster News You Choose
A Message from Ms. Jankovich
Dear Sangster Families -
It is so hard to believe that the end of the school year is here! This school year has certainly challenged us all. Your children amazed us daily with their positivity and creativity in both the virtual and hybrid settings. A silver lining is now our staff and students have new tech tools to utilize in the future to enhance their learning experiences.
The entire staff at Sangster is looking forward to having all of our students return for five full days of in-person learning in August. We traditionally host several events in the fall such as Open House and Back to School Nights (dates TBD). As COVID restrictions evolve over the summer, FCPS senior leadership will evaluate what these restrictions mean for us at the school level. Once a plan is in place for these events and the opening of school, I will communicate this to all registered families. Please note that the first day of school is Monday, August 23rd.
Have a wonderful summer and again, thank you for all your support!
Allison Jankovich

Sangster Summer Reading Passport
Reading helps us learn, grow, and connect. Our Summer Reading Passport encourages choice, inclusion, and new experiences - so grab a book, get comfy, and read diversely! Books may be chapter books or picture books for any grade level. All participants that complete five in a row (or more!) will be entered in a drawing to win one of many $10 gift certificates to the Sangster fall book fair. Students can access it here, along with other great summer reading resources, but they must log in with their @fcpsschools.net account.
SOL Score Updates
Our 3-6 grade SOL testing window is now complete! Parents will receive official SOL scores from the Virginia Department of Education in the late summer.
In the meantime, The Office of Assessment and Reporting shared that parents will be able to access grade 3-6 SOL results through ParentVUE student test history on or around June 11.
We will also be mailing the unofficial score reports home to parents separately from the end of the year progress reports. You can expect to receive this mailing sometime during the week of June 14, 2021.
Summer Practice Books
To help support continued learning throughout summer break, practice books are being mailed to homes of many FCPS students. Families who have opted-out of paper mailings from the division will only receive a digital link.
Students will receive the following books:
- Students enrolled in grades K-8 in 2020-21 will receive one Language Arts practice book and one Math practice book by course enrollment. These books will also include information and guidance about digital tools that can be accessed by students and families to support learning throughout the summer.
- English learners and students receiving Special Education services may receive additional or customized books.
Please see the Summer Practice Books webpage for more information and details about customized books for English learners and Special Education students.
