Our PTA accomplished great things this year! They held virtual meetings, shared guest speakers, hosted a virtual trivia night, held fund raisers, supported our students and teachers, and coordinated a very fun 8th grade car parade and celebration. Thank you to our awesome PTA President, Kelly Eignor and to our talented and dedicated PTA officers, Kelly Hoffman, Michelle Kamiyama, Janeen Parrott and DeShawn Robinson-Chew. Hugs of appreciation to our PTA and a huge thank you to all of our families who attended, supported, and contributed to the Liberty Middle School PTA this year!
Friday, June 11th is the last day of school and will be a 2-hour early release for students. Students will be dismissed at 12:00. The bell schedule for the 11th is linked HERE.

Dear Families,
We have amazing FREE AND FUN opportunities for your students this summer to encourage social connections, help prepare for the next school year, and enhance their academic skills as part of the IMAGINE program being offered at Liberty Middle School this summer. The IMAGINE Program includes Project-Based learning courses in math and literacy, as well as community building and social-emotional learning activities.
This program was originally by invitation only, but there are additional spaces available on a first come, first-served basis. This is a great opportunity for students entering 8th grade AND those going on to high school. For both groups, it will provide excellent preparation for next year.
To register for the program, complete THIS registration form as soon as possible to reserve your student’s space. Register by Thursday, June 10th to guarantee that transportation will be available on day 1 of the program.
Dates: July 12 - July 30, 2021
Hours: 7:20 am - 11:20 am
Breakfast, Lunch, and Bus transportation will be provided.

The 8th grade car parade and celebration was an enormously fun afternoon and a fitting send off to high school for our 8th grade students and families. Thank you to all of you for decorating your cars. We loved waving and cheering for our 8th grade students as you looped around the parade route. 8th graders were given a special commemorative Liberty Middle School water bottle, courtesy of our PTA, with a message inside from principal, Adam Erbrecht. 40 of the water bottles contained “Golden Tickets.” Tickets were redeemed for Centreville High School shirts, shorts, lanyards, and water bottles at the final tent on the parade route. 8th graders who missed the car parade will be given their water bottles during lunch time on Wednesday and Thursday or when they return their laptops to school on Friday or Monday. 44 students are receiving award certificates for their awesome car decorations. In-person students are receiving their certificates and prizes at school tomorrow. Virtual students will receive an award certificate and prize in the mail. Our Liberty Lions show amazing school spirit! Enjoy some of the fun pix from the parade!

Your child is continuing to develop an Academic and Career Plan (ACP) that supports their current work as well as helps them plan for the future.
Liberty counselors met with 8th grade students in April to assist them in reviewing the requirements for graduation and mapping out their required courses and electives through 12th grade.
The development of the ACP starts in middle school and is updated regularly through high school as each student’s academic, personal, and career goals evolve. Please have your child log into his or her Academic and Career Plan in Naviance and, with your child, review the draft course plan for high school. If you have a Blackboard Parent View account, you can log into your account, and together you and your child can view his or her plan. Once in the Naviance Student account, click on the “About Me” tab then “About Me Home."
The Virginia Department of Education requires that the student’s parent or guardian review this plan. Once you have reviewed your child’s plan, use this Google form to complete the verification form. The completion of this form will serve as your signature. This must be completed by Wednesday June 30th 2021.

The Liberty Legend, our virtual yearbook for 2020-2021, is so much more! Art teacher and yearbook advisor, Pam Orr, has done an amazing job of creating our first ever virtual yearbook for this unprecedented school year. The Liberty Legend is a yearbook, photo collection, art and literary showcase all rolled into one exciting and engaging online format to make it shareable and accessible to all of students, staff, and families. We are so grateful for Ms. Orr’s creative talents and dedication. We hope that you and your family will enjoy looking at The Liberty Legend and savor some sweetness from school year 2020-2021. There is no cost and no registration required to access the link for The Liberty Legend.
Liberty Middle School students are just this awesome! During Unity Time on Wednesday, we celebrated with our students in class and then dismissed students to enjoy a cold and flavorful Kona Ice treat in the parking lot which was safely blocked off from street traffic. We are celebrating and honoring our amazingly resilient Liberty Lions! Students who attend on Thursdays and Fridays, as well as all of our virtual students, do not worry. We have you covered. You will receive an ice cream gift card when you return your laptop to Liberty.
Does your child love the arts? Are you looking for a wonderful summer enrichment opportunity for them? Institute for the Arts and Elementary Institute for the Art's registration is open now for students currently in grades 2 through 11. Don't delay, seats are first come first serve! Registration closes June 25th.

Dear Liberty Parents,
As the school year winds down, we will begin collecting FCPSOn laptops from students. All devices from FCPS must be returned no later than June 14th. Please see the return dates/times as well as return instructions below.
In-Person Student Returns
Students who attend in-person on Tuesday/Wednesday ONLY and have a personal device to use for virtual classes on Thursday & Friday will return their laptop and charger during lunch on June 9th. If your student does not have a personal device to use for virtual instruction on Thursday & Friday, please follow the schedule for virtual only students below.
Students who attend in-person on Thursday/Friday ONLY or attend 4 days a week will return their laptop and charger on the last day of school, June 11th during lunch.
Virtual Only Returns
Students who are virtual only have several options for returning their device. If you have an alternate device to use for the last few days of school, please consider one of the earlier times as we expect many returns on June 11th. All device returns for Virtual Only students will take place through the bus loop and students will be required to exit the car, follow the signs, and come into the school’s lobby wearing a mask.
Virtual only families must plan on returning the laptop and charger on one of these dates, during the times specified. Please make sure to follow instructions below about preparing your device for return before you drive to Liberty.
Thursday, June 10th: 11:30 am to 1 pm and 4:30 to 6:30 pm
Friday, June 11th: 1 to 3 pm
Monday, June 14th: 9 - 11 am and 4:30 - 6:30 pm
If you’re unable to make any of these times, please email Lisa Basta and she will provide an appointment link.
Preparing your device for return
- Clean your laptop. First, make sure you completely shut-down or power off your laptop before you attempt to clean it. Using a Clorox wipe is fine as long as it’s not dripping wet, be sure to squeeze out any excess liquid. Wipe the screen, keyboard, trackpad, top and bottom covers. Make sure to leave devices powered off until they are completely dry. You may also use canned air (Air Duster) to clean out the keyboard. Do not use a vacuum cleaner on electronic devices; it will damage the device.
- DO NOT return the laptop sleeve, this is for your student to keep and use in the years to come.
- Unplug any dongles/receivers. It is very common for students to return devices with a wireless mouse receiver or Bluetooth dongle still plugged in to a USB port.
- If you have put a webcam cover of any sort, please remove it carefully.
- Wrap up the cord. If your charger came with a Velcro strap, please use that strap to completely wrap the cord up. If it did not, any attempt to wrap the cord up would help tremendously.
My child is in summer school? Can they keep their device for summer school?
If your child will be attending summer school, they can keep their device but it must be returned to Liberty Middle School when their program has finished. Do not return your device to Centreville HS if you have a rising 9th.

Dear Parents & Guardians,
Centreville High School is excited to offer our wildCat Connections orientation program to rising 9th and 10th grade students this upcoming summer. This is an optional program designed and taught by Centreville High School staff members and student leaders to provide students with an opportunity to explore the building, meet classmates, and participate in interactive team building activities to help with a successful transition to high school. We know that many students have been away from the school building for well over a year, and this program is designed to help support a successful return to school in the fall.
The program will be held at Centreville High School on August 3 and August 11. The time of the program will be 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM each day. Students can choose one day to attend based on your availability. We will have lunch available in the cafeteria, or students may bring their lunch.
Students should sign up for either August 3 or August 11 as the programming is the same for both dates. We will follow all FCPS safety guidelines and expectations that are in place at the time of the program.
Registration:
- Register by June 4th to allow for proper planning
Transportation:
- We are planning for bus transportation to be available from local elementary pick-up sites, and we will provide more bus details at a later date.
We look forward to meeting your child this summer. We are confident that your student’s experience in the wildCat Connections program will help lead to a positive and successful start to the school year.
There will also be a 9th grade orientation on the morning of Friday, August, 20th where students will follow their class schedule and meet their teachers. More details about this event will be provided later this summer.

Teens in Action offers an engaging, healthy and affordable recreation program for youth ages 12 to 18 to learn, play and serve. Activities include team sports, games, arts and crafts, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programming, service projects, and much more! Free nutritious lunches and snacks are served.
