Dear Flint Hill Family,

There are two days remaining in this school year, and it should come as no surprise that Flint Hill staff is taking every moment to celebrate learning and this memorable year with your children!

On Monday, staff connected virtually, and in-person, to reflect on our year. We celebrated retiring staff as well as those who are moving away. While we will miss those who are moving on, we take great pride in knowing that no matter where their next chapter takes them, they will always be a part of our Flint Hill family.

A special congratulations to all retiring staff. The following personnel are retiring from FCPS and have had incredible careers--sometimes more than one! You have much to be proud of as you begin your next adventure!

Susan Anderson-Muhs, SPED teacher

Karen Taylor, Outdoor Learning Specialist

Martha Peacock, SPED IA

Ana Giron, Custodian

Sylvia Garcia, Custodian

Lynne Kohls, K-IA

We are truly blessed to work with such world class professionals and feel honored to be a part of their journey!

Warmly,

Dr. Jennifer Hertzberg, Principal

Mrs. Allison Hoak, Assistant Principal

Tech Talk

Technology Return

Part of our end of year responsibilities include collecting technology from the students so that we can reimage the machines and prepare them for Fall distribution.

Before you return your machines to the front office, please make sure the following has been completed:

  • Power cord is wrapped and secured with a rubber band.
  • Laptop is cleaned using a lightly damp Clorox wipe. Please remove all stickers using a cotton ball and, if needed, Goo Gone. *Please do not remove Barcodes or laptop ID pockets.*
  • If there is a known issue with the Laptop, please fill out a RequestIT ticket before returning.
  • Please keep your carrying cases at home. They are for you to keep and use next year; we will not be collecting or replacing them.
  • Please return the charger with the laptop. If you do not have the charger anymore, you will need to pay for a new one through MySchoolBucks.com. Your receipt will be accepted as proof of payment. If you do not currently have a MySchoolBucks.com account, you must set up an account in order to pay for the charger.
  • Please note that all laptops will be assessed for damage upon check in.

The following days have been scheduled for virtual student laptop return. You do not need to sign up for a time slot. If you have a machine at home that you can use instead of the school laptop, or you are no longer using the school laptop, please select a day prior to the end of school. Students will still be required to attend classes after they return their school issued laptop:

  • Optional Days: Tuesday, June 2nd-Friday, June 11th – 8:30 am-3:30 pm
  • Required by: Monday, June 14th– 8:30 am-1:00 pm

In-person students returned their laptops on Wednesday, June 9th (Grades K-2) or will do so, in class, on Friday, June 11th (Grades 3-6). Please see above for cleaning directions of laptops and make sure your student has performed all of the cleaning steps before coming to school.

  • If your student is attending any FCPS program over the summer that requires a laptop (e.g., ESY/SOAR), we will make sure to return the machine prior to the start of their program.

What to Expect from the Post-COVID Transition

From the FamilyDinnerProject.org

As restrictions start to ease, families are undergoing a new kind of post-COVID transition. Returning to what used to be “normal” routines and schedules isn’t necessarily as easy as it seems. Some locations have rules and restrictions that others don’t have. Some families need to take different precautions than others. Some children can and will be vaccinated, others can’t. All of this uncertainty means that just as parents and kids had to adjust to lockdown, they’ll have to adjust to coming out of lockdown. We talked to Paula Rauch, MD, Founder of the Marjorie E. Korff Parenting At a Challenging Time (PACT) program at Massachusetts General Hospital, to get her insights into what parents should expect during the transition — and how to manage it.

We continue to highlight learning experiences that support the acquisition of Portrait of a Graduate attributes and skills across our community and Google classrooms.

It is wonderful to see our classroom communities bond over spirit days! Some serious creative thinking went into these hairdos!

Recognizing employees who go above and beyond
