Required Training MyPDE Notification: Be Sure to Complete All Assigned Training

As all remaining required training for SY 2020-21 were due on June 1, many employees received an auto-generated notification from MyPDE regarding the impending deadline. This notification was sent periodically before the deadline and will continue until the employee completes the required training.

Some of the required training is only offered synchronously, with no additional training dates scheduled for the remainder of the year. If no offerings are available, contact the course sponsor listed on the training for further instructions.

If you believe you have been assigned a training in error, please check with the course sponsor listed on the training or your supervisor.

If a course shows as Assigned, but if you believe you have already completed it, try the following:

  • Start a fresh session of MyPDE using Chrome and relaunch the course.
  • Confirm you answered every question and met the Pass threshold. (Some courses require 100%; others 80%.)
  • Click on the last slide to Exit and Complete.
  • Close the player window and confirm the status change to Attended.

For technical assistance, please submit a ticket to RequestIT or call (703) 503-1600.

Student Nomination of Inspirational Black Virginian Leads to New Historical Marker

Just as the success story of Kings Glen Elementary School’s History Hunters and History Makers Club unfolds, another roadside marker for Ona Judge, nominated last year by a Laurel Ridge Elementary School student, was erected earlier this week in Mount Vernon. The marker is a result of the Black History Historical Market contest which Governor Ralph Northam created to encourage students and teachers to help tell a more accurate, comprehensive, and inclusive Virginia story that recognizes Black Virginians and the important ways they have shaped our shared history.

The official unveiling of the marker will be held on Saturday, June 19 at 10 a.m. The unveiling is hosted by Supervisor Dan Storck and special guests include Secretary of Education Atif Qarni and author and historian Erica Armstrong Dunbar, the author of Never Caught: The Washington’s Relentless Pursuit of their Runaway Slave, Ona Judge.

In both instances, students researched and wrote submissions for the contest, led by technology teacher Maura Keaney. Over the past two years of the Governor’s contest, four out of ten of the statewide winners came from Maura’s students. Way to go, Maura! View Governor Northam’s shout out to Maura. Senior cellists Misha Somogyi and Keon Parastaran present “A Tribute to Doc,” a self-composed piece dedicated to Langley Orchestra director Dr. McCormick (right). Langley HS had been practicing almost entirely virtually before the performance, meaning that for many students, this was their first time playing the pieces side by side with other Langley Orchestra members. What’s the favorite part of your job? There are so many wonderful things about working for the FCPS. My favorite is probably serving the students and community. What are a few of your job responsibilities? Currently as an operations specialist I am responsible for supervising 23 schools’ food services and Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) vending operations.

Is there something you’d like us to know about you? I love being able to blend creative tasks with some of the more technical projects.

Do you have a favorite memory? Yes, meeting a kindergartener from Sleepy Hollow ES who was graduating from high school and still remembers [me] from his cafeteria team and favorite foods.

What’s the top item on your bucket list? Travel through India with my kids.

Do you have a hobby? I love music and watching football. Go Washington Team!
