Dear Families.
This week we wrap up an extraordinary school year, one your children will always remember. They will remember if they were virtual or hybrid and how they felt about it. They will remember their pod mates, or their playmates, or their classmates. They will remember their teachers’ names and how happy they were to see them online or in-person. They will remember wearing masks and playing from a distance. They will remember how excited they were to play on the playground at school or even to come in to take an SOL. They will remember the perks of school at home, like learning inside a blanket fort or going out to play in the snow during lunch.
What they may not remember is how much you did to make the best of this challenging year. They may not remember how you helped them work through their frustrations with virtual learning. They may not remember the dashed hopes when reopening plans changed and you quietly unpacked backpacks. They may not remember the times they were sent home sick for ailments that would get them a cup of water and a rest in the clinic any other year. They may not remember how hard you worked to maintain traditions so they wouldn’t experience any more loss this year. They may not remember how you communicated with their teachers to keep them engaged and learning through countless transitions this year.
But we will. And we will be forever grateful for your partnership.
Have a restorative summer. We can’t wait for next fall!
Warm regards,
Diane Leipzig, Dr. L
Our yearbooks have arrived! Students who ordered yearbooks and attend school in-person were given their yearbooks in school on Friday, June 4. Students who attend school virtually can pick up yearbooks anytime this week.
If your CWES child is completing sixth grade, eighth grade or twelfth grade this year, we want to celebrate them!

We are so excited to introduce you to some additions to our staff for next year. Some faces will be new and others will be familiar to you. We hope you will extend them a warm welcome when they join us for the 2021-2022 school year! Please note we are not including grade level assignments at this time for the new classroom teachers we have hired for grades 3-6 because our enrollment is still fluid. Teaching teams will be shared in a future edition of CWES Weekly Happenings, once our student enrollment numbers are more firm.
Hi CWES! I have been serving as a substitute school counselor this Spring, working with grades 4-6 and running the Mentorworks program. I am excited to be a permanent part of the Canterbury Woods family and to be working with Mrs. Becca Wilson next year. I have 17 years of Counseling experience - 11 years as a high school counselor and 6 years as a middle school counselor. I have an undeniable passion for counseling. In my spare time I love to craft, cook and decorate!
Hello! I have been a music educator and performer in Fairfax County for over 5 years, and recently graduated with my Masters in music education. I am looking forward to joining the Canterbury Woods team and getting to know all of the CWES students!
Hi CWES! I have a Bachelors degree in Psychology and Art and a Masters degree is Special Education for students with Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities. I have worked in preschools, private special education schools and public elementary schools. When I'm not teaching, I love to hike and spend time with my husband, two sons and my dogs. I believe in teaching students to think critically and utilize their strengths in order to become life long learners and self-advocates.
My name is Nichole Beheiter (pronounced “bee-hider”). I always tell my students I like to hide bees, so you will find bees all over my classroom! I have been teaching for 10 years. I love animals, especially my two dogs, Sofy and Basil. I love drinking coffee and eating sweets. I like to do arts and crafts in the classroom as well as in my free time at home. I am excited to be joining the Canterbury Woods family!
I am very excited to be returning to CWES join Ms. Beheiter and the entire Kindergarten team in the fall. This year I enjoyed supporting students as a Classroom Monitor, and last year I worked as a 6th grade Instructional Assistant both in-person and virtually. When life returns to normal, my family and I look forward to once again traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Hi there! I am so eager to be working with you all this fall as a 4th grade teacher! A little about me: I grew up in Leesburg, Virginia in the Loudoun County Public School system and am a double UVA graduate—go Hoos! A few of my favorite things include reading, knitting, hiking, biking, and binge-watching TV shows. I can't wait to join the Canterbury Woods E.S. community.
Hello everyone! I am so excited to be joining the Canterbury Woods family next year. I grew up in the Woodson neighborhood, so I am thrilled to be starting my teaching career here. I graduated from Cornell for my undergrad, and I am currently finishing up my master's from George Mason this summer. Some things that I enjoy are traveling, being a foodie, snowboarding, taking pictures, and painting. Also, a fun fact - Mindy Milliron was my 4th grade teacher! I am looking forward to joining the community and meeting you all soon!
Hi! I am so excited to be a part of the CWES community! I was born and raised in Fairfax County, and this will be my fourth year teaching in FCPS. I went to Virginia Tech for undergrad and received my master’s degree from Johns Hopkins. In my free time I enjoy being outdoors, spending time with my two cats, and playing board games, but my favorite thing to do is travel and explore the world!
Hi CWES! I am so excited to be returning to Canterbury Woods for the upcoming school year. I taught 4th and 5th grade AAP at CWES from 2015-2019 then moved to Arizona for my fiancée to pursue his MBA degree. After two years teaching in AZ and exploring the Southwest, we're coming back to Virginia! The community and staff at CWES have always been incredibly special to me and I'm thrilled to be back!
