Over three-fourths of both our Kindergarten and Sixth grade students remained virtual throughout the year. Considering this fact along with many others, Pine Spring has decided to continue with the plan to have our promotion celebrations virtually. You will receive detailed information from your child’s homeroom teacher regarding how to tune into the events. Kindergarten will celebrate in their homerooms, while 6th grade will celebrate as an entire grade level. Please join me in congratulating all of our Bobcats.

Join us tomorrow, June 3rd, at 7 PM for our last PTA meeting of the school year! |
We are excited to share that several of our Pine Spring Bobcats were highlighted in the Falls Church Pyramid Art Show. While there were so many wonderful entries, each school was only allowed to submit 15 pieces. Here is the entire Falls Church collection. We want to recognize the Pine Spring students whose pieces were submitted.

Classroom Lessons
The importance of Social-Emotional Learning has been elevated this year due to concerns about the impact of distance learning on student’s social and emotional well-being. We use the CASEL model of social-emotional competencies to ensure that we are teaching the skills needed to be a healthy, well-adjusted member of our community.
We teach lessons, such as understanding feelings, because it is an essential cornerstone of developing self-awareness, self-management, and social awareness. Lessons on friendship skills such as taking turns, sharing, and conflict resolution, develop social awareness and relationship skills.
Responsible decision making is addressed when we teach students to set SMART goals and prepare students to transition to middle school.
We will continue to teach these skills during classroom lessons and look forward to partnering with teachers to reinforce these skills throughout student’s years at Pine Spring. Should you ever have any concerns, we are always available to support you and your student.

We have been so fortunate to have the support of the many caring and compassionate businesses and organizations throughout the year.
The 911 Dispatchers, General Dynamics Information Technology, and Mike Ryan’s started the year out by donating tons of much needed school supplies.
General Dynamics Information Technology also provided backpacks which contained hat, gloves, and a gift card for food.
Much appreciation to The Assistance League of Northern Virginia, The Elks Lodge and The 2x20 Group for also providing gift cards for food. The Assistance League donated pillows to the kindergarteners and quilts with books to Head Start, while Food For Others provided “Power Packs” to Head Start families.
To make sure our kids were nice and warm this year, The Fairfax County Fire Department and Cooper Middle School students generously donated coats. Students from Cooper also gave presents to kindergarteners in December.
Recently, our Parenting Center received a donation of new clothing from Ross Dress for Less and the Lies Center to add to our collection of clothes. Sizes and styles are limited, but if you would like clothing for your family call the office to sign up for a time to shop.
Many of our families don’t know what they would have done without the generous support of The PTA who provided Hungry Harvest boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables to 100 families each month.
Researchers and teachers have long recognized that students tend to start the academic year with achievement levels lower than they were at the beginning of summer break. This decline is sometimes called the “summer slide”.
Since our brain muscle could benefit from a summer workout, we gathered information from our staff about their favorite on-line learning resources. Check them out and make learning a regular activity in your house.
