The Principal's Desk!
Greetings Families,
My message this week is longer than usual since this is the last weekly message for the 2020-21 school year. I had the pleasure over the past couple weeks of attending the graduation ceremony at Fairfax High School, the naming ceremony at Katherine Johnson Middle School, and our 6th grade promotion ceremony. I can't wait to see what the future holds for our 6th grade students as they move through our pyramid schools!
It is that time of year where we say goodbye and best wishes to our staff who have decided to retire, relocate, or transfer schools, along with staff who are changing roles within DRES.
Retirees - Kathy Polkinghorn (Reading); Nancy Slocum (Special Education)
Staff Leaving - Atilio Headley (Spanish); William Root (Adapted PE); Anju Awasthi (Instructional Assistant);Erin Robinson (Speech); Ashley Pontera (Social Worker); Morgann Babcock (Special Education); Alyssa Ollis (1st grade); Liz Cassidy (Pre-School); Eric Laurits (Resource); Grace Yi (Special Education); Karina Soles (2nd Grade)
Welcome to Our New Staff - Chantenia Gay (Spanish); Michaela Wheat (Kindergarten); Mackenzie King (1st Grade);Kevin Toskovich (5th Grade); Debbie McCoy (2nd Grade); Kelsey Hunt (2nd Grade); Ashleigh McPherson (School Counselor); Elizabeth Jackson (Pre School)
Staff Changing Roles Within DRES - Tami Gaskill (moving from Kindergarten to 2nd grade); Gaby Auza (moving from 2nd grade to Resource); Megan Baker (moving from Pre-School to Special Education)
I want to extend my deepest appreciation to all of our families for the support you have given our staff and your children. We overcame many obstacles and challenges this year as a school community and I am extremely grateful to serve the staff, students and families of this wonderful community.
Contact me directly at cmsmith@fcps.edu or call the main office (703-279-8400) if there is anything our school team can do to support your student and family.
Have a great summer break and I look forward welcoming all of our students back to the building on August 23rd!
