Dear Shrevewood Community,
It is the time of year that we are focused on endings and beginnings. We are ending the school year and looking forward to the beginning of summer. Some endings are much harder for us, especially when they involve saying goodbye to some of our wonderful Shrevewood staff members. It is with mixed feelings of sadness and affection that we bid a fond farewell to the following Shrevewood staff members:
Jenny Buchanan, Student Information Assistant, We will miss her expertise with student registration and her extensive knowledge of our school. She is looking forward to having time to spend with her family. We wish Mrs. Buchanan the best and are grateful for her years of dedicated service to the Shrevewood community.
Jeanne McKinley, Part-time School Counselor, will be retiring this year. We appreciate having Jeanne on our staff this school year. We wish her the best of luck and a relaxing retirement.
Tyler Katocs, Kindergarten Teacher, is relocating to Annapolis, MD. Ms. Katocs was a part of our Shrevewood community for two years. In her time with us, she not only shared her love of learning with students, but she has also been an amazing instructional leader. Ms. Katocs has a positive energy and enthusiasm that we will greatly miss next year.
Stacey Franzen, Second Grade Teacher, is transferring to Loudoun County Public Schools to be closer to her home. Ms. Franzen’s nurturing personality and engaging classroom instruction contributed to great success for our students in Second Grade. We wish her the best as she transitions to her new school.
Ramona Wright, Sixth Grade Teacher, is transferring to Franklin Sherman Elementary School in Mclean to be closer to home. Mrs. Wright has enjoyed her time as a member of our Shrevewood team. Her warm personality and emphasis on building relationships made her an essential member of our Shrevewood community. Her passion for both children and learning will be missed.
Nadeen Hamden, First Grade Teacher, is leaving Virginia to teach in New Jersey to be with her family after two years of dedicated service at Shrevewood ES. Her dedication to teaching and learning ensured her students achieved high levels of success. We wish her all the best in her new position.
Shelby Aleksejczyk, Fourth Grade Teacher, is relocating back to her hometown in Pennsylvania. Ms. Aleksejczyk has served as a Fourth Grade teacher at Shrevewood ES for the past four years. With her own passion for teaching writing, she has instilled within her students a love of writing. Ms. Aleksejczyk supported Shrevewood ES with her participation on many committees and shared her leadership with her colleagues. She will be greatly missed.
Kathy McDonald, Part-time ESOL Teacher, will be teaching ESOL at Annandale Terrace next year. Mrs. McDonald has inspired our students to expand their conversational skills and furthered their learning of other cultures. Mrs. McDonald is often supporting students throughout the school and is always willing to lend a helping hand. We know Mrs. McDonald will continue to inspire students to become proficient with a new language and we wish her the best in her new school.
Amy Criss, Fourth Grade Teacher, will be transferring to Groveton ES next year to be closer to home. Amy has taught second and fourth grade at Shrevewood ES the last two years. This position will provide her a very short commute to work each day. We wish Amy the best of luck at her new school!
Sohaila Malik, Head Start Assistant, she will be retiring after 21 year of service to education. Her dedication to working with children in our head start program and her compassion for all students will be greatly missed. We wish her the best as she moves forward and enjoys a wonderful retirement.
Jin Moon, Instructional Assistant, will be relocating to California next year. She will be moving with her family to be closer to her daughter to is attending college out west. Our special education students benefitted from her positive attitude and patient demeanor. We wish her the best in her new pursuits.
Shimaliya Aurora- Fourth Grade Teacher, is transferring to Greenbriar East ES to be closer to her home. Ms. Aurora’s infectious personality will be missed at Shrevewood ES. We wish her the best as she transitions to her new school.
Kim Olsen- ESOL Teacher, is transferring to Loudoun County Public Schools to be closer to her home. Kim has been a classroom teacher in Third Grade and an ESOL for three years at Shrevewood ES. We will miss her humor and positive personality. She will be greatly missed next school year!
Tylea Owens- Assistant Principal, received a promotion to be a Principal in Chesterfield County. We are proud of Mrs. Owens! She has been at Shrevewood ES for six years. Three of them as an Instructional Coach and three as our Assistant Principal. We wish Tylea the best of luck with her new position as Principal of Winterpock Elementary School.
As the summer approaches, we could still have staffing changes. We will continue to update the community with changes. We are already almost fully staffed for next school year. We are excited to introduce the new staff members with you later this summer.
Goodbyes are not forever.
Goodbyes are not the end.
They simply mean I’ll miss you
Until we meet again!
