1. Message from Dr. Floyd

Good afternoon Woodson Families:

Congratulations to the Class of 2021! We had a beautiful graduation ceremony on our home football field on Wednesday. A huge thank you to all of our students, parents/families, faculty/staff, neighbors, and all those connected to the #oneWoodson community for making graduation a special event for these seniors.

Underclass families, please review the end of year checklist to make sure all laptops and textbooks/library books are returned before the summer break.

We will stay connected over the summer via the school website and special issues of this newsletter.

Stay connected,

Dr. Floyd

  • All Students Returning to Woodson must complete the following steps before turning in their laptops. All local files and bookmarks must be backed up or they will be erased.
  • Laptops must be returned free of stickers, markings and other drawings, or the student will be charged a $50.00 cleaning fee.
  • Students should turn in their laptop and charging cord.  Students should keep their case, we will not collect cases from students.
  • If a student lost their laptop or their laptop cord, they should visit the Woodson Technology site and scroll down to the Property Damage or Loss section.  Payments will be made through MySchoolBucks.  Students should bring a paper receipt from MySchoolBucks with them when they come to laptop collection.

8. Sports Physical Night

Registration is open for Woodson's annual Sports Physical Night on Wednesday, June 16th! Register HERE!

As always, the goal of Sports Physical Night is to provide a complete pre-participation examination screening that will leave student athletes with a VHSL physical valid for the entirety of the 2021-22 School Year.

Each year it is required that all student athletes have a completed VHSL physical on file before participating in sports. Price will be $50 as in previous years.

Hosting this event is our Athletic Training Program’s only fundraiser for the year and ALL proceeds go towards helping the program purchase supplies. Without your support we would not be able to provide the services we do for our student-athletes. Appointment times will be available at 5:30, 6:00, 6:30, 7:00, and 7:30pm.

Want to Volunteer??

If you would like to volunteer please feel free to complete the volunteer registration here. As of now, we are still looking for a few more physicians and HCPs to complete the actual physical exams (MD, DO, NP, PA) as well other HCP’s comfortable with taking vital signs. If you are willing and able to donate your time, it is greatly appreciated. If not, and you know of some others that would be able to assist us, please feel free to spread the word!

If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to reach out to Chris Hogge, ATC at chogge@fcps.edu .

12. Healthy Minds Blog: Prioritize Mental Health to Build Resilience in Families

This past year presented so many different challenges and obstacles that tested our strength and resiliency. During this global pandemic, the major changes to the ways we live our lives have impacted our children and their relationships. Many families have experienced higher levels of stress and anxiety than ever before.

The good news is that there are tools and resources available that can help parents support the well-being of themselves and their children.

16. Updated Mask Guidance

School policy regarding masks remains unchanged. For the remainder of the FY 2020-2021 school year, FCPS will be requiring students and staff to continue to wear masks and socially distance both indoors and outdoors on school grounds.  While inside on school property, students, teachers, staff, and visitors must wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.

This is consistent with CDC guidelines which state that schools should continue with all current mitigation strategies through the end of the school year despite updated guidance for fully vaccinated people. FCPS will maintain CDC requirements of 3 feet social distance in classrooms and 6 feet social distancing in our cafeterias through June 15.

Events effective May 28, 2021

  • High School Athletics
  • School Performances including promotion/award ceremonies/drama performances (both during school hours and after school hours)
  • Graduations (FCPS will be streaming all graduation ceremonies)
  • All Night Grad Parties, Prom, and other gatherings (PTA, PTO, PTSA events)

Indoors - Masks required; no social distancing requirement

Outdoors - Masks NOT required; no social distancing requirement
