Message from the Principal

Dear Wolftrap Families,

We've made it through another busy week and we are approaching the final days of the 20-21 school year! SOL testing for students in grades 3-6 is winding down and we are very appreciative of the parents of our virtual students for coordinating transportation during testing.

Please remember that Tuesday, June 8 is a synchronous day for ALL students (both virtual & in-person).  Wolftrap is a voting site and therefore we can't have students in the building this day.  Thank you for planning accordingly for this schedule change.

In a few weeks, there will be a resource for instructional practice in math and reading sent to you from FCPS to continue learning over the summer. Please see below for more details about this resource. I will send more information about the subscription options for online programs in my final update on June 11.

I hope you have a happy and healthy Memorial Day weekend with family and friends and thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,

Teresa Khuluki
Principal

Technology Update for Virtual Students

We have reviewed the schedule for June 11th technology return and have added an afternoon opportunity for drop off. We can receive computers from virtual students from 1:30-3:30pm on that day, giving all student the opportunity to participate in school activities. Dismissal is two hours early on June 11th.  Please let Mr. Mat Campet  know if you have any questions or need assistance. Thank you!

Score Report Updates

Thank you for your help and support through SOL testing this year. Please keep in mind that testing results will be interpreted differently this year. This school year has been unique for every teacher and student. SOL scores are a data point to consider in a larger picture of student participation and performance. We will study scores and use them to support students, but we will also be keeping the conditions of this year in mind. To that end, we will continue to use our assessments and knowledge of students to provide the most appropriate learning environment next year. We also want you to know when to expect score reports. As always, please let us know if you have any questions about test results.

Reporting Processes:

  • SOL: Results for spring writing and non-writing tests will be distributed to families through new SIS ParentVUE reports, available in late July.
  • WIDA: Results letters will continue to be centrally mailed to families; however, a delay in scores from VDOE will postpone these mailings until early September.
  • VRSPT: Results for new VRSPT assessments will be centrally mailed to families before the start of next school year.
  • iReady/Universal Screener: These reports will be included with progress reports and mailed at the end of the year.
  • VKRP (CBRS/EMAS): (Kindergarten only): These reports will be included with progress reports and mailed at the end of the year.

Mitigation Strategies and Updates

We want to provide you an update on mask and social distancing guidelines for the remainder of this school year.  For the remainder of the 2020-21 school year, FCPS will be requiring students and staff to continue to wear masks and socially distance during instructional time inside school buildings. Students will be required to wear masks at recess, but will not be required to be socially distanced. FCPS will maintain CDC requirements of 3 feet social distance in classrooms and 6 feet social distancing in our cafeterias through June 15. Both these requirements are aligned with the Fairfax County Health Department guidance and helps maintain consistency as we finish out the year.

Summer Practice Books Coming in June

To help support continued learning throughout summer break, practice books are being mailed to homes of many FCPS students. Families who have opted-out of paper mailings from the division will only receive a digital link.

Students will receive the following books:

  • Pre-kindergarten students will receive one interdisciplinary summer practice book.
  • Students enrolled in grades K-8 in 2020-21 will receive one Language Arts practice book and one Math practice book by course enrollment. These books will also include information and guidance about digital tools that can be accessed by students and families to support learning throughout the summer.
  • English learners and students receiving Special Education services may receive additional or customized books.

Please see the Summer Practice Books webpage for more information and details about customized books for English learners and Special Education students.

Wofltrap PTA

What an incredibly different year, a year we will not forget. The PTA is wrapping and closing out moving into the summer with an incredible new board that has already started getting ready for next year. We have a few openings still leading into the new year that were top priority for the Wolftrap Community identified by our PTA survey:

After School Programs Committee Lead: PTA is changing the way we manage After School Programs. The PTA will be working with a vendor to do the major leg work for this committee. We are looking for a lead who can coordinate with the service we are considering to get things coordinated for next year.

Communications Committee Support: The Communications committee is responsible for putting out the joint Wolftrap ES and PTA Connection bi-weekly. This team needs support and provides flexibility for scheduling. Team members sign up throughout the year for a Connection to support. PTA committees send Connection content to consolidate and publish. Done!

Green Team Support: The committee is looking for out of the box thinkers to support Green Team efforts next year.

If any of these committees interest you, please reach out to president@wolftrappta.org for more details.

All reimbursements will be due Monday June 7, 2021. See below for links to reimbursement form and instructions.

Thank you Wolftrap for the wonderful support this year! PTA Board 2020-2021 signing off.
