Cardinal's Message

Cardinal's Message

Dear Cunningham Park Families and Friends,

Cicadas, cicadas, cicadas everywhere!  By the sights and sounds outside, we are in full swing with our new friends.  Like always, our Cardinals have welcomed these new visitors with open arms setting up food and water stations during recess time.  Although some may be more excited for our new flying friends to return to the ground, they have definitely brought out the scientist in our Cardinals.

As the end of the year is rapidly approaching, we wanted to share some information regarding student laptops.  Parents of both virtual and in-person students have the option to check out an FCPS laptop for summer use. If you choose to check out a laptop, your child’s teacher will be sending a form home that needs to be completed and returned. Copies of the form will also be made available in the front office.  Upon return of the form, the laptop is checked out for the summer.

If you do not choose to check out a laptop, your child will return their FCPS laptop and charger at the end of the school year.  In-person students will return their laptop to their teachers, while virtual students will be returning their computers and chargers on Friday, June 11, Monday June 14th or Tuesday, June 15th from 9:00am-2:00pm.  Please contact Keri Mina (kdmina@fcps.edu or 571-424-7146) with any questions.

We hope you have a wonderful three-day weekend and a great Memorial Day!

Sincerely,

Katie Le, Principal and Jon Kemmerer, Assistant Principal

Positivity Project: A Year in Review

by Dr. Keri Mina, CPES Technology Coach

Our Positivity Project lessons have ended, but we want to remember all the traits we’ve learned about this school year.  The Positivity Project traits all focus on the other people matter mindset.  This includes:  knowing my words and actions affect others, cheering others’ successes, being present and giving others my attention, supporting others when they struggle, and identifying and appreciating the good in others. These overarching themes include all the traits we’ve studied about all year.

Our digital citizenship connection to other people matter is: We are kind and courageous.  As we have learned all year, what we do online needs to reflect what our actions would be in person, face-to-face with others.  We need to remember to always be kind, be an upstander when we see any time of cyberbullying or drama online.  This means helping others or telling a trusted adult to help.

Try this at home:  Reflect on all the traits we’ve studied this year.  Click here for a list of the traits.  As a family, talk about which one was your favorite and why.

Quote of the week: “A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.”  -Amelia Earhart
