Library News

Check out for students has closed for the year due to end of the year library maintenance. All books are due back by June 1st. If you receive a library overdue notice and have any questions or concerns please e-mail me at skslusher@fcps.edu.

On June 8th there will be a zoom presentation from the Fairfax County Public Library about their summer reading program. June 8th is a virtual school day due to Democratic Primary, so students will need to access the zoom meeting from home. More details will come from the classroom teachers.

Fox Mill will have an optional summer reading incentive as well. It is a summer reading BINGO board! Mrs. Spruill and Mrs. Slusher will be sharing the board with students and passing out copies during library specials in June. More details are on the library Google Classroom and will be on the Fox Mill website this summer.

Thank you for all your support this year!

FCPL Summer Reading Program:

Reading Adventure is live on the Youth Summer Reading Adventure page, including information about prizes and activity badges. Video and links are posted in the library Google Classroom under Summer Reading.

  • SRA Theme: Tails and Tales
  • Dates: June 13-August 11
  • Teens can register themselves or be registered under a family account—it is up to them.
  • They can login and log their own reading on their devices or a family member can do it under the family account if that is how they are registered.
  • Teens (and all other readers) also have the option of participating via a paper log (which will not be available until the program launches) if they do not have access to a digital device (or just prefer the analog way). They have until August 13 to complete the log and return it to their library branch to be entered into prize drawings.

Mrs. Slusher will be discussing this summer reading program and our Fox Mill summer reading BINGO board during library specials in June.

RISING 7th GRADE IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENT

Effective July 1, 2021 all students entering 7th grade will be required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), and Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY).

If your student has already received these immunizations, please provide proof of vaccines to the Fox Mill Office as soon as possible so that data can be recorded for your rising 7th grader.

Seventh grade students cannot begin school in August without proper Tdap and Meningococcal documentation.

If your student will receive these immunizations over the summer, please provide one of the following documents to your student’s Middle School as soon as possible:

  1. An updated immunization record showing that the student has received the missing immunization(s).

  1. A note on a healthcare provider’s letterhead stating the date the vaccine(s) was given.

  1. A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.

  1. A notarized Religious Exemption Form which is available online at:

http://www.doe.virginia.gov/support/health_medical/certificate_religious_exemption.pdf

Immunizations are available from your student's healthcare provider or the Fairfax County Health Department. The Health Department clinic locations and hours are available online at: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/health/immunization/school or by calling 703-246-2411.

Please contact Amy Migliara at 703-262-2700 if you have any questions.
