Class of 2021!

You made it!  Congratulations! Remember your graduation is on Friday, May 28 at 4 pm. You are expected to come to rehearsal on Thursday, May 27 at 9 am.  Virtual students and those who missed this week’s laptop turn in days must bring your laptop to rehearsal.  You will not get your cap and gown until you turn in the laptop.  You student accounts will no longer work after you graduate.  If you wish to save anything from Google Drive, either download it then log into your personal Google account and upload it.  You can always move the files to a jump drive, or USB drive as well.

FCPS Summer Program Registration

Here is FCPS summer program registration information including credit recovery courses, SOL remediation, and other programs. https://www.fcps.edu/academics/summer-learning I have also been (and will continue) calling/e-mailing individual parents and students about summer options if a student has been failing a core course or SOL this year.

Most summer programs fall under FCPS Adult & Community Education, so first the parent will create a free account on ACE. Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge is needed for registration:

https://aceclasses.fcps.edu/Login.aspx

The face-to-face courses (Credit Recovery Academy) are repeat credit, for students who previously failed a core course or end this school year with NM (for this year only, final F’s will be changed to NM). For this summer, students may take up to two repeat credits. https://www.fcps.edu/academics/summer-learning/summer-learning-credit-recovery-academy There are also SOL test remediation classes for various subjects during these sessions if the student has failed the SOL. There are two summer sessions; each is three weeks Mon. - Fri. at various high schools throughout the county, from 8:00-1:00 each day. They are free of charge, and lunch will be offered free as well. The parent will register on ACE and enter the requested classes, and then the request will come to me on the system for my approval. Please take note of registration deadlines.

Class Dates:

  • Session 1: June 28 - July 16, 2021 (no class July 5)
  • Session 2: July 21 - August 6, 2021

Registration Dates:

  • Session 1: Monday, April 26 - Monday, June 21, 2021
  • Session 2: Monday, April 26 - Monday, July 12, 2021

These classes will be offered at various high schools, and transportation is provided from “depots,” which usually refer to nearby high schools. A chart will pop up saying which base schools “feed” to a specific high school offering the summer classes, and the parent can choose the class location from there. The family has to provide the transportation to the depot.

Students can take Self-Directed Online Economics & Personal Finance (a credit required for graduation) as a new credit during the summer: https://aceclasses.fcps.edu/AcademicCourseDetails.aspx?AreaID=11068&AreaName=&CourseID=510acb79-6cc6-411e-8603-dc188e793df0&ProgramID=443&ProgCatgName=High+School+-+EPF&CategoryID=10481&Term=202103&IsCourse=1

Runs June 28 - July 30, completely online - 14 modules consisting of 140 small units that student goes through at his/her own pace. There are a total of 140 Exit Tickets, 14 module tests, and final exam that all need to be done by the last day.

Taken for Pass/Fail only

$140 on sliding scale

On the Summer Learning page, toward the bottom, you will see information about other summer programs. CTE Summer Academy and Institute for the Arts are enrichment programs that allow students to choose, from an extensive list, which modules they would be most interested in. https://www.fcps.edu/academics/summer-learning

Please let me know if you have any questions or need help. As mentioned, I will also be contacting parents of failing courses or SOLs directly to advise them on options for summer credit recovery.

Thank you --
