Announcement

We all have bittersweet moments in our lives, and this is one of them. After twenty-eight years at Silverbrook Ms. Bena Barham is retiring. Ms. Barham took a moment to reflect on her time here at Silverbrook.

Barham

I joined the Silverbrook faculty in 1993 as a half time kindergarten teacher. The Silverbrook community was growing quickly, and I was a full-time kindergarten teacher by midyear. I enjoyed working with the kindergarteners as we cooked, counted, read, tumbled on mats, and sang in our yearly kindergarten musical production. In 1997, I became a first-grade teacher at Silverbrook. My first graders were named Barham’s Bunch, and they worked hard in guided reading groups, math groups, and outside exploring nature with our class tree. In 2009, I joined the second grade, team. My second graders worked to improve their reading, learned all about Monarch butterflies, and conquered subtraction with regrouping. I became the Silverbrook librarian in 2017. I have enjoyed reading and researching with all the Silverbrook students. With the help of my assistant Mary Anne Haskins, we were able to move the Silverbrook library into its new home. Thank you for allowing me to work with your children. It has been a pleasure to be a part of the Silverbrook Elementary School community for 28 years.

Ms. Barham, we salute you, and thank you for ALL you’ve done to support our students; over the years you have influenced and molded thousands of lives throughout your career as an educator. You will be missed and are greatly loved by the students, staff, and community of Silverbrook. After you’ve taken time to relax and travel, feel free to come back and visit, there will always be room for you here.

Silverbrook Preschool

We know that early intervention is best and providing various opportunities and experiences for children helps them grow and learn. We are proud to announce that in the new school year Silverbrook will have a preschool autism class (PAC) in our building! The class will have approximately 6 students. The classroom will be outfitted with everything a preschool classroom would need and more! We are looking forward to welcoming our youngest learners.
