Outdoor Learning Space

Celebrating and looking forward to learning in our new outdoor learning space. It was installed this week, thanks FCPS!

SOL Testing Update

Grades 3-6 have completed the state required SOL assessments for this school year pending some make-ups. SOLs are required for all students attending public school in grades 3-12. All students in grades 3-6 are assessed in reading and math and students in grade 5 are assessed in science.

We are so proud of our virtual and in-person Lions! Many 100% virtual students were in the building for the first time this school year and we are so grateful to have seen them in-person. We are looking forward to seeing all Lions in-person next school year.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the state of Virginia will not use SOL scores to determine state accreditation. These assessments will be used to help schools measure any learning loss and prepare for how we will support students in the coming school year and close any academic gaps. In a normal year, heavy emphasis is put on each schools SOL scores. Those scores provide information to us as a school community on how well our Lions have understood the concepts taught. The scores have never translated into grades on students’ progress reports in elementary school.  As you review this school year and the SOL scores with your child, please focus on how much your  child has learned and less on whether they passed the SOL assessment or not.

Possible reflection questions for you and your Lion:

  1. This year I learned that...
  2. One thing I am especially proud of is...
  3. One thing I am worried about or feel I need more practice with...
  4. Next year, I am excited to...

As we move into next school year, we are reviewing several data points so we can plan for the individual and collective needs of our Lions. Next year, FCPS and London Towne will offer five days of in-person instruction to all students. We are excited to have all Lions back in the Towne and know that together we can meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of students.

Thank you for your continued support, perseverance, and willingness to lean into our values of courage and curiosity, and for embracing the line from our school song, whatever it takes, we can do it

Return All Library Books

Lions, we need your help with library book returns.  We are trying to collect as many books as possible from last year and this school year. If you have a library book or books at home, please return them to school as soon as possible.

Collection Process:

  • Virtual Students can return books to the book bin at Door 1. The book bin is available Monday - Friday from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. for all LTES books.
  • In-Person Students can return their books to the basket outside their classroom doors or drop them in the book bin @ Door 1.

We truly appreciate your help! Please contact Megan Carnahan, our Librarian at mmcarnahan@fcps.edu or 703-227-5220. Thank you!

FCPS to Require Masks for the Remainder of the School Year

For the remainder of the 2020-21 school year, FCPS will be requiring students and staff to continue to wear masks and socially distance during instructional time inside school buildings. Students will be required to wear masks at recess but will not be required to be socially distanced. FCPS will maintain CDC requirements of 3 feet social distance in classrooms and 6 feet social distancing in our cafeterias through June 15. Both these requirements are aligned with the Fairfax County Health Department guidance and helps maintain consistency as we finish out the year.

As per national, state and local guidance, there are unique and specific mask and social distancing requirements for graduation, athletics, school performances, and other school-specific events held indoors and outdoors. FCPS will be transitioning to updated guidelines for these specific events starting May 28.

For specific information regarding these requirements, please visit this webpage.

Provide Your Feedback on FCPS’ COVID Relief Funds

Fairfax County Public Schools wants to hear how you want to spend anticipated American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) III funds.

The ESSER III grant will be used in support of students, staff, and school operations. Learn more about the ESSER III grant.

Sign up to speak at a Fairfax County School Board Public Hearing about the ESSER III grant on June 7, at 6 p.m. or submit your input using the FCPS Online Feedback Form.

Reminder: June 8th is a Virtual School Day

Tuesday, June 8th will be a virtual synchronous learning day for students as it is Election Day. The Fairfax County Electoral Board and City of Fairfax Electoral Board will be using London Towne as a polling place. Therefore, June 8th will be a virtual synchronous learning day for students. Log into Schoology and BbCU for a day of virtual learning with your teacher.
