Scottie Tales for the week of May 24

A Note From Your Principal

I hope you are all doing well. If your family is anything like mine, you have been in full swing with evening and after school activities and it is almost as if life back to normal. We are counting down until the end of the 2020-2021 school year with just 14 school days left.

Items below will need your attention, and require response from you. Please take time to read and as always feel free to reach out to the school with any questions you might have.

Please enjoy the weather, our special guests (the cicadas) and the festivities that accompany this time of year. Have a great week, make sure you are taking time to get our kids (and ourselves) unplugged and outside.

End of Year Laptop Collection

You will have two options for returning the student laptop to the school. Please fill out this Google Form to let us know your intention.

1. Return the laptop at the end of the school year

  • In-person students may simply drop-off the laptop and charger before they leave the building on the last day of school.
  • Virtual students must drop off the laptop in the Bus Loop during the drop-off windows:
  1. Monday, June 14 between 11:30 am and 2:00 pm
  2. Tuesday, June 15 between 7:30 - 9:00 am
  3. Wednesday, June 16 between 7:30 - 9:00 am

2. If your student is participating in Summer Learning Programs, you may keep the laptop through July 23, 2021.

  • We will have a drop-off window at the end of summer learning programs. Laptops should be returned to school no later than July 30. We will reach out to schedule a time for return.

If your student currently has a MiFi device for home internet access, and are not currently enrolled in a Summer Program, please return the MiFi device.

*All virtual student laptops should be returned to Bonnie Brae Elementary School in the Bus Loop.

If your student will no longer be enrolled in Fairfax County Public Schools, please plan to drop off the FCPS laptop per the instructions above.

Library Books

Bonnie Brae currently has over 700 over due library books signed out to students. While we love making sure students have books we do need the books returned and accounted for before sending them back out to our community. Starting Tuesday, May 25 there will be book collection bins outside the front doors during school hours for you to return your books. Please check your shelves, closets, cars, under the bed, behind the sofa, and anywhere you can think of to locate and return our books.

Our library will be offering summer checkouts. Please be on the lookout for those hours coming soon.

Bonnie Brae Summer Learning Opportunities

FCPS has made summer learning a priority for students as a response to the impact COVID has had on all of us. We are offering 3 programs at Bonnie Brae this summer; Bridges to Kindergarten (students starting K in the fall of 2021); Bridges to First (students who will be in first grade in the fall of 2021), Summer Olympians Aspire & Reach [SOAR] (current K-6 graders). These programs are going to support students who were 100% virtual this year or who are working below grade level for reading and/or mathematics. The school team is working on sending out invitations for those students who are identified. All three programs are only offered in-person. If you receive and invitation for one of these programs please respond to your invitation be the end of this week.

If you have questions about any of these programs please reach out to your classroom teacher.

June 8th- 100% Virtual Instruction Day

As mentioned in previous Scottie Tales June 8 is 100% virtual instruction due to the election. Classes will be operating on a modified 100% virtual schedule for the day. Please be on the lookout for more details about the schedule for the day coming from your homeroom teacher later this week.

As always, we are going to come out stronger because of each other. Stay safe, take care of yourself and take care of each other.

Best,

Principal Skerker
