Principal's Message

Dear Bulldog Family--

I hope that everybody had a fantastic weekend and is ready for a great week! We are entering the home stretch as we approach the final 3 weeks of the school year. While it seems to be right around the corner, please urge your students to continue to work hard through the end. As a community we have been working so hard during this unique year and we don’t want to trip up at the end! Please make sure you are checking in with your students, and that your students are checking in with teachers and counselors as we get to the finish line.

We had quite the busy week this past week. Whether it was the End of Year Meeting for the class of ‘21, a full slate of athletic events (including Athletic College Commitment Ceremony), and a great weekend of outdoor theater with The Theory of Relativity. We were also incredibly excited to celebrate our Cat B Prom which was a HUGE success. We are starting quick this week by welcoming our future Bulldogs from the Class of 2025 tomorrow afternoon to check out their new home for next year. We also have a lot of athletic events this week as our teams fight to gain position leading into district tournaments. Lastly, we will host our Art Walk on Wednesday (students only).

Below is more specific information. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, feedback or celebrations. You can also communicate directly through the form located here: https://forms.gle/4eW9rgPRVBF2a5gd8

Go Bulldogs!

2021 Summer Reading Westfield Reads!

All Westfield students, teachers, and staff will be reading the same summer book: They Called Us Enemy By George Takei, Justin Eisinger, Steven Scott & Harmony Becker

We hope that you will join us in reading the graphic novel before the first day of next school year!  They Called Us Enemy is the first-hand account of a young boy whose family is rounded up into a Japanese-American internment camp in 1942.  When we return in the fall there will be opportunities to discuss the novel and participate in a variety of activities in multiple classes.

Westfield’s goal is to keep students reading over the summer, so we understand if you select a book of your own choosing this summer.  If you would like some recommendations, please reach out to your English teacher.

Topic: FCPS Receives ESSER III Funding; Community Feedback Wanted

Please share with your school community.

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has received American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) III funds to help safely reopen and sustain the safe operation of schools. The funds also address the impact of COVID-19 on students by supporting their academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs, among others.

FCPS is seeking stakeholder input on how our community would like the grant to be used in support of students, staff, and school operations. The community is invited to speak at a Fairfax County School Board Public Hearing about the ESSER III grant on June 7, at 6 p.m. Sign up to speak. Members of the FCPS community can also submit their input using the FCPS Online Feedback Form. Find more information on the ESSR III grant.
