2. Bear Cub Cooking Club - May 27

Are you a Bear who loves to cook?  Have you already participated in the Bear Cub Cooking Club?  Did you miss the Bear Cub Cooking Club and still want to be a part of the fun?  The Wellness Committee and Ms. Pecha will be hosting one last Bear Cub Cooking Club for this school year on Thursday, May 27th at 5:00 pm.  By popular demand, Ms. Pecha, our resident celebrity chef, will be leading us in making one of everyone’s favorites: PIZZA!

Please check out the flyer. Here is the recipe in English and Spanish. Come join Ms. Pecha and many other staff members for another fun cooking class!  We hope to see you then!  Bon Appetit!

Help Needed

3. Virtual Art Walk Needs Your Child’s Artwork

Our annual art walk will be presented virtually this year! Your child's work will be shared with their class in a special video slide show during the last week of school.  Ms. Henry is working hard to put together slides of artwork she has received but could use your help to get the best pictures possible. You can send pictures of your children's art to Ms. Henry at ehenry3@fcps.edu by June 1.

If you do not want any of your children's art shared in their classroom, please contact Ms. Henry to opt out.  Many thanks for helping us celebrate our Olde Creek artists!

Save the Date

4. Save the Date: Virtual Student Drive Through

On Monday, June 7, from 3:00-4:00pm, we want to celebrate our online students.  During this hour timeframe, we ask our parents of virtual students only to drive them through the Olde Creek bus loop and kiss-n-ride parking lot where our teachers will be waiting to wave and wish them a safe and wonderful summer of fun!  Please take advantage of this great opportunity. We hope to see all of our virtual families!

Save the Date

5. Car Parade for Former OC Students

In lieu of our annual Grad Walk where graduating seniors that attended Olde Creek are celebrated as they walk through our hallways, we will be hosting a car parade on Monday, June 7th at 2:30 p.m. We have invited all of our former Bears to drive through our bus loop so we can celebrate and wish you well!

6. Library News and Information

The book on the OC Story Walk this week is, Swimmy, by Leo Lionni.  In this beautifully illustrated book, Swimmy shows his friends how, with ingenuity and team work, they can overcome any obstacle together.  Stop by the OC playground with your family anytime to read this charming story.

All OC Library books are due on Friday, May 28th.  Fully virtual students can return their books in the large tub in the OC front lobby marked, “Return Your Library Books Here.”  The front lobby can be accessed through door number 1 from 8:00am-4:30pm, M-F.  In-person students can return their books in the blue tubs just outside their classroom doors.  Weekly overdue emails and notices will be sent to help families find and return library books.  Books from the 2019-20 school year will be included in the emails and notices.  Although families are not financially responsible for these materials, we will be thankful for each book that is found and returned to the library.

PTA

8. PTA Corner

The PTA is looking for volunteers. We can use as many as possible to help out with next year's activities, which we hope will be getting closer to normal.  Some current positions we need assistance with are: school supplies, spirit wear, and Laps for Learning.

Please contact me directly (kathrynreider@gmail.com) if you have any questions or are interested in volunteering.

Schoology

9. Tune into the new Schoology and Me Podcast

FCPS students, families, and staff are transitioning to Schoology (pronounced /SKOO-luh-jee/) as FCPS’ divisionwide learning management system beginning July 2021. Schoology is a learning space that enhances communication, collaboration, and personalized learning for students, teachers, and families.

Listen to Schoology and Me, a lighthearted podcast hosted by Aron Sterling from Instructional Services and Shane Wheeler from Information Technology.  Listeners will:

  • Hear from pilot school communities about their experiences; and
  • Learn about updates and cool features available in Schoology to support teaching and learning.

Find the podcast on Apple or Stitcher.  Schoology Page on the Employee Hub. For more information, contact the Schoology Project Team at schoology@fcps.edu.

11. Donate to our OCES Outdoor Oasis

We are excited to kick off our campaign to raise funds for our Outdoor Oasis. Our goal is to enhance our outdoor learning spaces so more classes can enjoy learning outside. In addition, we want to add outdoor dining spaces where students can safely eat and socialize. If you are interested in donating to this project, please visit our FCPS Foundation campaign page.
