Teacher Requests at HES for the 2021-2022 School Year
As we begin planning for the next school year, one of our most challenging tasks is creating class groupings. It is very important to have balanced classes that reflect the diversity of our students. These decisions are made with input from your child’s current teacher. We ask parents who have special considerations to submit their requests in writing, telling us about your child’s learning style, strengths and weaknesses. You may also want to list characteristics of a teacher that would best match your student’s needs. Requests for specific teachers will not be honored. All requests should be emailed to jrlewis@fcps.edu. The deadline for submitting requests is the last day of school for students (June 11). We appreciate, in advance, your support and cooperation with this process.
School Supplies for 2021-2022
Hayfield Elementary is offering the opportunity for parents to order their child’s school supplies directly online now through July 6. Here is the information you will need to order:
- Go to educationalproducts.com/shoppacks
- Enter the school ID, HAY027 (3 letters/3 numbers)
- Follow the directions to complete your order.
- Keep your online confirmation as your receipt.
Orders will be charged sales tax at checkout and all orders will be delivered to Hayfield Elementary saving you shipping fees. Supply kits will be delivered to your student’s classroom before school starts. If anyone has questions please contact the office at HayfieldESOffice@fcps.edu or at 703-924-4500.
End of Year Medication Pickup
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school (June 11). Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room.
Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services. A medication authorization form is required for any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, to be kept at school. Please be sure medication orders are clear. All information on the form must be completed. Part I must be signed and dated by the parent or guardian. Part II must be signed and dated by your physician. Over-the-counter medication given for headache, muscle pain, orthodontic pain, or menstrual cramps and antibiotic or anti-viral medication do not need a physician signature. More detailed information is available on the back of the medication authorization form.
Over-the-counter medication must be in the original container and clearly labeled by the parent or guardian. All prescription medication, including physician’s samples, must be labeled by the pharmacist or physician. Please make sure that the label clearly states your student’s name, the name of the medication, the dosage of the medication, and the time interval for administration.
If your child will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, your existing long-term medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).
Your cooperation will ensure that we can safely give your student his or her medication. If you have any questions, please contact your school health room aide, at 703-924-4510, or your school public health nurse at 703-704-6128. Thank you for your cooperation and have a good summer.
School Age Child Care (SACC) Open for the
2021-2022 School Year
Many FCPS staff utilize Fairfax County’s School Age Child Care (SACC) programs for childcare. Good news! SACC will be open to provide before and after school services for the 2021-22 School Year. The SACC program is currently assessing center capacities based on health and safety protocols. More information for the 2021-22 School Year program will be available by June 15 on the SACC website. Families who were previously enrolled will be contacted to determine their need for services.

Registration for School Year 2021-2022
Children residing in our boundaries who will turn 5 years old on or before September 30, 2020, as well as students in grades 1-6 transferring from Private/Home Schools or moving into our boundaries prior to the start of the new school year must select an appointment to register. All information pertaining to registration, including eligibility and forms is outlined in the Sign-up Genius where the appointment selection and instructions for electronically submitting registrations is available. You can find the link here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050F49ACA62AA46-20212022.
We are currently not conducting in-person registrations. (Original, signed forms/documents will need to be presented in-person to finalize enrollment and create student files. Our registrar will notify you when plans have been made for collection of hard copies.)
Please spread the word to neighbors to whom this may pertain. While you are guaranteed enrollment (as long as you physically reside in our boundaries and meet the age requirements) we prefer you register sooner rather than later to ensure we are adequately staffed. You must have all of the documents/forms to be enrolled. If your child’s most recent health physical was completed prior to August 26, 2020, you will need to provide a more current physical once completed.
Has Your Address Changed or Will It Be Changing?
If you have moved or will be moving before the end of the school year, please be sure to contact Lisa Warden at lbwarden@fcps.edu to let her know.
Please note that even if you have moved or do move out of the Hayfield boundary before the end of the school year, your child(ren) can continue to attend Hayfield Elementary through the last day of school.
