Mustang Message - May 30, 2021

Dear Bren Mar Park Families,

We hope that you enjoy a day of rest with tomorrow's Memorial Day holiday!  Please remember that, because it is a holiday, there will be no morning meetings or work assigned to your child.  We encourage you and your family to enjoy time together as a family, getting outside, and taking care of yourselves.

We look forward to seeing your child online or in-person again on Tuesday, June 1.

Take care,

Mrs. Williams

Proud BMP Principal

June 8 is an Asynchronous Learning Day

Due to elections scheduled to take place on June 8, 2021, there will be no in-person learning held on this day.  All Bren Mar Park students will participate in virtual only learning.  Students should log in to their assigned classrooms using the BBCU link in their Google email account at the start of the school day, 9:15 a.m.

Student Check Out Process

For parents/guardians who are checking out students from the school building, please remember that you are required to bring a government-issued photo identification, such as a passport or drivers license, so that we can ensure the safety of your child.

Parent Perspectives Feedback

The BMP Equity Team is seeking perspectives from our families and guardians to support their working in increasing home-school partnerships to help students thrive in their academic and social-emotional learning.

We invite families to provide their perspectives, thinking and feedback by completing the End of Year Family Equity Survey .

Summer Principal Chat

As we prepare to begin our summer season, I will be inviting parents to join me in Principal Chats to share perspectives, ask questions, and suggest ideas about how we can continue to work together as return strong in the Fall with 5 days per week of in-person instruction.  These will be virtual only to allow for increased access and participation, and I do hope that you will find a time to join at least one.  Upcoming dates for these are:

    - Monday, June 28, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. - Sharing Hopes for Our Students

    - Monday, July 26, 2021 at 6:30 p.m.- Sharing Our Stories

   - Monday, August 8, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. - Partnership: Reflection on the Year

Parent Information Session: ST Math

Every student has the potential to deeply understand and truly love math. This belief helps ST Math become a powerful tool many students are using in FCPS. Students develop their math knowledge through challenging puzzles, non-routine problem solving, and informative feedback.

Join us for this important webinar to learn how families can use ST Math with their children to help them develop a deep conceptual understanding of mathematics.

Webinar Highlights:

  • Discover how learning occurs in ST Math
  • Support students working in the program from home
  • Uncover how to view student progress
  • Locate additional resources for ST Math use at home

Presented by Jim deBerjeois, and Vivian Doughty, Professional Learning Specialists at MIND Research Unit.

          June 7, 2021 10-10:45 a.m. and 6:30-7:15 p.m.

Message from Your PTA

Thank you to the volunteers that made Teacher Appreciation Week special!

The BMP PTA hopes to see you at the next PTA Meeting, Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 6pm. A BBCU link will be provided 2 hours before the meeting.

From our last meeting, congratulations to the following new PTA board members:

  • Kristen Melita, incoming PTA President
  • Katie Hollier, current and incoming Treasurer
  • Treffaney Lowe, incoming VP of Community Engagement

We are still in need of a Secretary to have a PTA next year!  If you are interested or would like nominate someone, use this link to submit a name or email the bmp.pta@gmail

The PTA is also seeking additional volunteers to help with:

  • June 6 - Assist the PTA Treasurer, Katie Hollier, to review financial records and compliance documents. The Financial Review is a great way to understand the PTA functions.
  • June 9 (Rain date, June 10) - Assist Mrs. Williams in celebrating our BMP staff at an End of Year Staff BBQ. We are looking for:
    • Provide a Grill – let BMP borrow a grill for cooking
    • Set Up/Clean Up – help set up/clean up tables and food items
    • Grill Masters – volunteer time to grill hamburgers and hot dogs, 4:30 – 5:15 p.m.

Please contact the BMP PTA if you can help with either at bmp.pta@gmail.

International Night

Join us as we celebrate the amazing diversity of Bren Mar Park at this year’s (virtual) International Night!  Your family can share many things from your country/culture: a musical performance, dance, reading a poem in your language, modeling some beautiful clothing, showing some delicious foods, or talking about art/artifacts.

If your family would like to participate, please use this flipgrid link for your performance: https://flipgrid.com/1b3a4b1d

Performances will be shared the night of the event.

Specialist Spotlight

Spotlight on Art

We are staying busy in art right up until the end of school.  4th and 5th grade artists have been hard at work learning about perspective in art.  We have learned basic one-point perspective and have been creating a cityscape with details.  2nd and 3rd grade artists have been learning about patterns in landscapes and how to make things look far away by making objects smaller.  Kindergarten and first grade artists learned about cicadas (“COOL!” or “EWWW!” depending on who you ask) and we also completed a still life unit to learn about how artists draw things in front of other things.  Multiage artists are finishing up their alphabet unit where we have made art based on all the letters in the alphabet.

I have truly enjoyed teaching all of your children at Bren Mar Park this year.  It is amazing to watch them learn and grow, and I am so proud of all they have done.  I am looking forward to hearing all about their summer adventures when we return in the fall.  I hope that everyone keeps up the amazing artwork!
