The Positivity Project:

A Year in Review

Last week, we finished up our journey through the 24 character strengths that your student learned about this school year through participating in the Positivity Project. Ranging from bravery and forgiveness to integrity and gratitude, these character strengths are the foundation of The Positivity Project’s model. Character strengths aren’t about ignoring the negative. Instead, they help us overcome life’s inevitable adversities. For example, you can’t be brave without first feeling fear; you can’t show perseverance without first wanting to quit; you can’t show self-control without first being tempted to do something you know you shouldn’t.

We are hoping to keep the positivity going throughout the summer and into next school year. We encourage you to incorporate the 24 positive character strengths into activities and conversations with your student when possible. If you would like to learn more about these strengths or the Positivity Project in general, please visit the Positivity Project at https://posproject.org/character-strengths/

Summer Learning at Fairview

Fairview will be holding in-person summer learning programs at Oak View Elementary. These programs are limited in space and will be based on student need. Families of children invited to attend in-person Summer Learning will be contacted in the coming weeks. There is nothing parents need to do. Our site coordinator is Mrs. Rachel Bowerman, Fairview Literacy Coach.

All students will receive a Summer Learning Math and Language Arts packet, and all students will continue to have access to online programs including ST Math and Imagine Language and Literacy.

Summer Practice Books

Summer Practice Books will be mailed home to FCPS students to provide suggested activities for students to support continued learning.  Families who have opted-out of paper mailings from the division will only receive digital copies of the Summer Practice Books.  Books will be mailed home to families in early June to arrive before the last day of school, June 11, 2021.  Families will receive email communication in May about upcoming book arrival.  Digital versions of books will be emailed to the enrolling parent SIS account in PDF format the week of June 7, 2021.

  • Pre-Kindergarten students will receive one interdisciplinary Summer Practice Book.
  • Students enrolled in grades K-8 in 2020-21 will receive one Language Arts Practice Book and one Math Practice Book by course enrollment.  These books will also include information and guidance about digital tools that can be accessed by students and families to support learning throughout the summer.
  • English Learners and Special Education students may receive additional or customized books.

More information can be accessed on the Summer Practice Books public webpage.

2021-2022 PTA Board Elections

We need YOU!

The Fairview PTA is still looking for additional nominations for 2nd VP, Secretary and Treasurer.

One of the requirements to having a PTA in good standing is to have at least three board members, one of which must be a Treasurer. Without a treasurer, AND without at least three board positions in place, a PTA cannot move forward.

Disbanding is the very last option we would seek. It would be great to have a board in place over the summer to start planning for the 2021-2022 school year. As COVID restrictions decrease, the PTA will be able to return to a sense of business as usual. Let’s make up for this last year!

If you have questions about board positions, please reach out to one of the board members or the nomination committee at nominations@fairviewpta.org
