Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

It was another busy week in the hive! Our 3rd-6th graders completed their Math SOLs this week, including many of our virtual students who came into the building to complete these assessments.  Next week we will have our final SOL for our 5th graders who will be taking Science.  Make-Ups will be held the following week and will be coordinated by Dr. Mitchell; please look for communication from her if your child needs to make up their SOL.  Next week, there will no longer be staff out in the Kiss N Ride loop until the original drop off time.  Please make sure you supervise your child until Kiss N Ride opens at 8:50am.

Next week is our final week for the book fair. This is a great opportunity for you to stock up on some books for summer reading!  See the section below for more information.  Mrs. Cole is also working diligently to collect all of the checked out library books.  Today was the last day to check out library books and ALL books need to be returned by next Friday.  With the pandemic, we have 1,263 books checked out to families and over 500 of those are overdue; please check in all the hiding places in your house.

Summer Practice Books in June

FCPS will be helping to ensure all students have access to learning materials over the summer by providing Summer Practice Books. The books provide suggested activities to support continued learning over the summer break. Families who have opted-out of paper mailings from the division will only receive a digital link.

Books will be mailed home to families in early June to arrive before the last day of school, June 11th. If books do not arrive ahead of the last day of school, families are encouraged to reach out and request print copies.

Students will receive the following books:

  • Pre-kindergarten students will receive one interdisciplinary summer practice book.
  • Students enrolled in grades K-8 in 2020-21 will receive one Language Arts practice book and one Math practice book by course enrollment. These books will also include information and guidance about digital tools that can be accessed by students and families to support learning throughout the summer.
  • English learners and students receiving Special Education services may receive additional or customized books.

Please see the Summer Practice Books public webpage for more information and details about customized books for English learners and Special Education students.

Laptop Turn In

ALL FCPS laptops must be turned in for the summer.   All students will need to return any FCPS laptops, chargers, and cases (if in person) for the summer.

  • In Person students will be asked to return their laptop to school the last week of school.
  • Virtual students will be able to sign up for a slot on either June 21st or June 22nd, more information to come.  If you are a virtual family and your child has not been using your school issued laptop, you can reach out to Mr. Fenton to arrange a time to return it earlier.

Stenwood Library Closing

ALL books are due back by May 28th.

The Stenwood Library is closing for the year!  Mrs. Cole needs to get back all the library books that have been checked out this year.  Virtual students can return their books to the main foyer at the front of the school during regular school hours.  In-person students can return their books to their classroom library return bins.  If you are uncertain if your student has anything checked out, please contact Mrs. Cole and she’ll be happy to update you.
