A Note from Principal Quigley

Dear Franklin Sherman Families,

I hope you will join us tonight at 6:30 p.m. for the YouTube Live premiere of our sixth grade musical - Super Happy Awesome News FSES!  You may access the link through Ms. Hood's Music Google Classroom.  Here's a quick peek at what's in store for us this evening.

The show will be recorded for those who are unable to watch it live this evening.  Ms. Hood will share the details regarding how to access the recorded show in her Google classroom as well.  Putting on a production in a virtual format is quite challenging and we are so grateful to our fabulous music teacher for providing our students with this opportunity!

Collection of Student Laptops

Collection of Student Laptops

Franklin Sherman families are asked to please carefully plan according to the following guidelines for the return of student laptops checked out for the 2020-2021 school year.  The collection, maintenance, and redistribution prep for over 300 devices is a large and important task and we need your help.

  • Any student whose last day of school is before June 11 must turn in their laptop, power adapter, and sleeve on or before their last day of school. Students who are attending FSES face-to-face can leave the items with their classroom teacher on their last day.  Virtual students should turn in the items to the office
  • Students who logon virtually on Fridays and will need to keep their items in order to access virtual instruction on June 11 will need to return their laptop and power adapter to FSES after dismissal on June 11.   This includes students who have remained 100% virtual and those attending face-to-face two days only.  There are two times when staff will be waiting in the bus loop near entrance 1 when families can drop off their devices.
    • June 11 after busses leave (approximately 2:15 ) till 4:30 p.m.
    • Monday June 14 from 10 a.m. to Noon.
  • Students who will attend school face-to-face on June 9, 10, and 11 will bring their device to school on Wednesday the 9th and will not take it home after that date. This includes all K-5th grade students who have a device checked out for use at home during the 2020-2021 school year.  6th Grade students who only attend face-to-face on Thursday and Friday will bring their items to school on June 10 instead of the 9th.
  • Please return all items checked out including the laptop and the power adapter. Please also return the laptop sleeve if one was issued.  If items need cleaning please do this before returning them to FSES.  Laptops and wires can be cleaned by first applying mild cleaning solution to a soft microfiber cloth and then wiping down the items.  Do not spray cleaner directly onto a device.  Debris can be removed from keyboards with a compressed air duster.

June 8 - Virtual Day for All Students

Tuesday, June 8, is the Democratic Primary Election. Because the Fairfax County Electoral Board and City of Fairfax Electoral Board will be using 165 school facilities as polling locations, June 8 will be a virtual synchronous learning day (no In-Person classes) for students.

Virtual Program for 2021-2022

FCPS is excited to have all staff and students return in the fall to five days of in-person instruction! Our schools are safe. Our in-school transmission rates remain less than 1%, even as we have reduced social distancing to three feet in our schools.

FCPS realizes that some students may have a documented health or medical need for virtual instruction. Enrollment in FCPS’ Virtual Program for the 2021-22 school year will be VERY limited. Eligibility will be based on a health/medical certification of need completed by a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, psychiatrist, or a licensed clinical psychologist. Families will need to apply.  An email with details was sent to all current virtual students this week.  More information can be found on the Virtual Program webpage.
