Woodburn News - May 21, 2021

5-21

Dear Woodburn Families,

It is hard to believe we only have 3 weeks of school left!  We have wrapped up SOL testing and are so proud of the effort our wildcats demonstrated during each test.  Thank you for the support you have provided at home throughout our testing season.

We have many exciting end of the year events approaching.  Our calendar below highlights our upcoming events.  Classroom teachers will also be reaching out about end of year celebrations. We are excited to celebrate our wildcats and finish the year strong!

Together we grow,

Katy and Bridget

2021 FSO Link Up Program

"Swing Dancers" created by 3rd Grade Woodburn Artist, Nora Mertz

We invite you to join us on Thursday, May 27th at 6:30 pm for a virtual celebration of our 2021 Link Up program!  We will come together as a school community to watch musical and artistic performances by students, teachers, and Fairfax Symphony Orchestra (FSO) musicians.  There will be fun learning games for all!

With help from our amazing community partner, the FSO, Woodburn students have been learning a musical program about Jazz and Swing music in their General Music and Visual Art classes.  Many schools in our area are participating in this program and Woodburn has taken a leading role!  Several of our Woodburn students and teachers are featured frequently throughout an engaging and interactive video they have produced.  We are excited to celebrate the arts and our students’ achievements throughout this event and hope you’re able to join us!

June 8 - Virtual Learning for All Students

Tuesday, June 8, 2021 is Election Day.  The Fairfax County Electoral Board and City of Fairfax Electoral Board will be using 165 school facilities as polling locations. Because of this, June 8th will be a virtual synchronous learning day for students.

June 11 - End of Year Celebration for All Students

On June 11 we will come together to celebrate the end of the year.  Virtual students will be invited to visit the school to return their laptop, see their teacher, enjoy a tasty treat, and more!  This event will take place from 10:30-1:30.  More details will be shared soon.
