6th Grade Picnic, Fri., 5/21 (During School Hours):

This is going to be an amazing day that our 6th grade students will remember as a culmination of an incredible elementary school experience.  We have planned a fun-filled day that meets FCPS guidelines for end of year events, but still allows us to have a memorable day.  We have divided the 6th grade class into AM and PM sessions, where they will participate in COVID-friendly outdoor activities.  Between these two sessions, the entire 6th grade will be able to take a socially-distanced photo from the roof in their SLES 6th Grade t-shirts, which will be handed out on the day of the picnic.  The entire 6th grade will also be able to have a 6th Grade Committee-provided lunch on the outdoor grounds together as a class, while maintaining regular social distancing requirements.  Virtual students are welcome!

The schedule is as follows:

10:00 – 12:00 AM – AM Picnic Session with field games

12:00 –  1:00 PM  - Photo and Lunch Hour (Lunch is provided at no cost to students)

1:00  –  3:00 PM – PM Picnic Session with field games

6th graders have already been assigned to an AM or PM picnic slot based upon their preferences and are being notified by their teachers of their time slot on google classroom. We are still seeking parent volunteers for the afternoon session, to assist in the field activities and monitor social distancing.

Unfortunately, due to a strict county control on numbers, we will not be able to have other parents attend the picnic.

Girls on The Run 5k - Sat. May 22 @ 10am at Fort Hunt Park in the back.

Girls on The Run: Our girls in grades 3-6 are running their 5K race this Saturday! We are looking for the ‘gift of time’ by having masked volunteers encourage our runner by holding signs made by the girls and using some of our cowbells and pompoms, or any other cheerful noisemakers.

We have over 50 runners participating this year and we couldn’t be prouder of them! Our team would love for the community to come together to help support these young ladies in this endeavor. They have done such a wonderful job learning more about character, emotions and making good choices while developing a running skill set.

Help us encourage our girls on Saturday for their 5K!

Family STEAM Night ‘At Home’ Edition

The PTA realizes that this is the busy time of year for families, so we may not be able to come all together on one night and play games. Instead of having a dedicated night, try these “Minute to Win It” style games and have fun learning STEAM at the same time! Get your copy of these games here.

2021/2022 PTA Board Nominations

The nominations committee is accepting nominations for the SLES PTA board for the upcoming school year! The Stratford Landing PTA has a rich history of active support and enrichment for our school. If you or someone you know has a heart to contribute to our school community in this capacity or has any questions about any of the vacancies, please contact us at board@slpta.org

All Students to be Virtual on Tues., 6/8, due to Democratic Primary Election

Tuesday, June 8 is the Democratic Primary Election. Because the Fairfax County Electoral Board and City of Fairfax electoral Board will be using 165 school facilities as polling locations, June 8 will be a virtual synchronous learning day (no in-person classes) for all students.

PTA End of Year Picnic - Wed. 6/9 - 5:00 - 6:30 pm (K-2) & 7:00 - 8:30 pm (3-6)

Please join the PTA for an in-person and outside celebration of a successful school year, as well as the final PTA meeting for the year. While we are gathering in person, we must still adhere to the “no more than 250 people at an outdoor event” restriction placed by Governor Northam. At this time, we are asking SLES families to abide by the following guidelines at the picnic:

* Bring you own dinner, blanket, drinks, etc.

* Everyone should wear masks unless eating

* Space your picnic blanket at least six feet from other families

* Come during the scheduled time for your grade level **Note** If you have more than one student, come at your oldest student's scheduled time:

       ** K - 2nd 5:00 - 6:30

       ** 3rd - 6th - 7:00 - 8:30

We hope it will be a relaxing social event for all who would like to join. We will also be live-streaming the meeting on Facebook to anyone who would prefer to participate from home.

6th Grade Promotion - Thurs., 6/10 during school hours

A promotion ceremony for each individual class will be held outdoors on school grounds. Virtual students are invited, and all students may bring up to 4 family members. Students are encouraged to remain at school following their ceremony until dismissal to participate in fun end-of-year activities in their classrooms. Social distancing & masks are required.

Class promotion times:

11:00 am Ms. Payne

12:00 pm Mr. Hess

1:00 pm Ms. Dacey

2:00 pm Ms. O’Dea

3:00 pm Mr. Bertholet

Last Call for SLES Face Masks

Thank you to everyone who has supported our year-long fundraiser of SLES Face Masks. The number of masks on-hand is considerably low, especially youth sizes. If you are interested in placing an order, please do so ASAP via the PTA site: https://slpta.org/product/sles-face-masks  Please note that we will officially close the mask sale on June 1 (or sooner if masks sell out).

SLES Family Needs Our Help to Cover Cancer Treatment Expenses

Dolphin pod! One of our very own SLES Dolphin families needs our help. This little future Dolphin, nicknamed Beautiful, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia in July 2020 and has been bravely battling it ever since. A short time ago, changes were made to the family’s insurance so that now Beautiful's three-year treatment plan will not be covered. Mom can’t get a job right now because she’s the primary caregiver of her daughter. Not only that, this sweet girl is immune compromised so her siblings, who are SLES students now, must stay 100% virtual. We are omitting names to protect the family's privacy.

When one dolphin family needs help, we must come together to do what we can because we are stronger together! This family needs our help covering medical expenses.

*****Update: Thank you to all who have contributed, shared, and supported this dolphin family. We have raised over $13K to help them pay for chemo treatments for Beautiful!

Please continue to share as you can with your networks.

Every time the link is shared, we see another bump in giving!
