It was a beautiful day for these Kindergarten students to enjoy some music and movement outdoors.
Last week, FCPS and LCES shared information regarding the 2021-22 Virtual Program. As a reminder, only students meeting specific eligibility criteria will be granted this opportunity. A COVID-19 Health Eligibility form must be completed, including parental permission to contact the treating healthcare provider, for your child to be considered for the Virtual Program. The deadline for families to submit their COVID-19 Health Eligibility Form has been extended to Friday, May 28. (See form in other languages.)
Every FCPS elementary school will have summer learning opportunities designed to support students as they develop executive functioning skills, mathematics skills, and language arts skills. The learning will provide an opportunity for students who have been identified using various criteria.
In the coming weeks, Lees Corner school staff will contact families of students who will be invited to participate in the summer program. The total number of students that can attend will be impacted by the number of teachers available to work this summer. We are in the process of finalizing our teaching staff and will reach out very soon to these select families.
The Summer School program will start July 12, 2021 and end July 30, 2021.
For more information regarding our LCES Summer School Programs, please contact our Site Director, Ms. Kris Kang at kkkang@fcps.edu.
We are all looking forward to sunny days and summertime fun! Summer break doesn't have to mean that learning stops.
Summer Practice Books will be mailed home to FCPS students to provide suggested activities for students to support continued learning. Families who have opted-out of paper mailings from the division will only receive digital copies of the Summer Practice Books. Books will be mailed home to families in early June to arrive before the last day of school, June 11, 2021. Families will receive email communication in May about upcoming book arrival. Digital versions of books will be emailed to the enrolling parent SIS account in PDF format the week of June 7, 2021.
- Pre-Kindergarten students will receive one interdisciplinary Summer Practice Book.
- Students enrolled in grades K-8 in 2020-21 will receive one Language Arts Practice Book and one Math Practice Book by course enrollment. These books will also include information and guidance about digital tools that can be accessed by students and families to support learning throughout the summer.
- English Learners and Special Education students may receive additional or customized books.
More information can be accessed on the Summer Practice Books public webpage.
We need your help in projecting our total enrollment for next school year. For families NOT returning to Lees Corner ES in the fall of 2021-2022, please complete and return the “Student’s Intention for the Next School Year” form by Friday, May 21st.
A typed parent/guardian name on the Parent Signature line is acceptable. Student ID Number may be left blank. Save the completed form, attach it to an email and send to jwboddie@fcps.edu.
If you have questions, please call Jill Boddie at 703-227-3519.
Access the “Student’s Intention for the Next School Year” on the FCPS public website:

On Tuesday, June 8th, all students in FCPS will participate in virtual instruction. There will not be any in-person instruction.
This change to the calendar was made because June 8th is an election day and many schools are polling locations.

We would appreciate your assistance in sharing this information with neighbors who have preschool children or who are new to the area. SOL testing is continuing for students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Virtual students will test on Mondays as listed below:
Monday, May 17th--5th and 6th grade Math
Monday, May 24th--3rd and 4th Math; 5th grade Science
Virtual students should arrive at school between 8:45--8:55 a.m. so testing may begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. Pickup time has been moved up to 11:00 AM because students are finishing the tests much quicker than expected. Please use the Kiss and Ride loop for both drop off and pick up. The front parking lot is used for buses.
Students will be offered a breakfast before testing begins. Students may bring a snack, and a water bottle is highly recommended. Water fountains are not being used for drinking at this time.
In-person students will test on a day when they are in school.
The remote tests have been paused until further notice.
We have great news to share! SACC (School Age Child Care) will be open to provide before and after school services for the 2021-22 School Year. The SACC program is currently assessing center capacities based on health and safety protocols. More information for the 2021-22 School Year program will be available by June 15 on the SACC website. Families who were previously enrolled will be contacted to determine their need for services.
Attention! Curbside pickup will take place from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM on the following dates:
May 17th
May 24th
PLEASE NOTE: ALL LIBRARY BOOKS ARE DUE May 28th!
This week, the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) put out a statement supporting FCPS’ model of five days of in-person instruction for all students this fall.
This endorsement by a highly respected group of pediatricians validates our belief that in-person learning is best for children. The AAP also believes that virtual instruction should be utilized only when necessary as a result of a documented health or medical need and in consultation with a child’s physician or medical team.
FCPS virtual learning in the fall will be limited to students with documented COVID-19 related health/medical needs. For more information about the virtual program for School Year 2021-22, visit the virtual program webpage or view the news release.
