1. Principal's Message

Rising Kindergarteners for 2021-2022 - Join Us for The Following Events

Virtual Parent Orientation

Thursday (TONIGHT!), May 20, from 6:30 - 7:15 p.m.

This will be a virtual meeting where parents will get a chance to meet the GBW administration / teaching staff and to hear a brief introduction to Kindergarten.  Click Here to join the Kindergarten Parent Orientation Meeting. 

Kindergarten Walking Tour for Rising Kindergarteners (2021-22)

Monday, May 24, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

This will be a chance for families to take a brief walking tour to meet our GBW staff in person and to take a quick inside tour of our school.  Click Here to register for this event (registration is required due to social distancing regulations).

Our GBW staff is looking forward to meeting each of your children, and we can’t wait to welcome you into our GBW family.

Class Placements for 2021-2022 - Grades K-5

Dear Parents / Guardians of all GBW Students in Grades K-5,

The Greenbriar West staff will soon begin designing our class placements for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. We welcome and encourage parents / guardians to share feedback with our school about your child’s learning needs.  Please complete a separate form for each child.

Please note that we do not accept requests for a specific teacher, and the feedback should focus more on your child’s learning needs.

GBW Volunteer Appreciation Celebration- Thursday (6/3) 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Have you been volunteering this year at GBW with the PTA, yearbook, in the front office, in our classrooms, or in any other capacity? 

  • If so, we would love to celebrate and honor your volunteerism at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Celebration scheduled for Thursday, June 3, on our blacktop by the playground. 

Please RSVP using this Google Form by Friday, May 21 so we can have an accurate head count (please include any children / family members in your count if they will be joining you).  Also please plan to bring your own camping chairs so we can spread out to honor the CDC guidelines for social distancing.

Kiss and Ride to Open Early (9:20am) on SOL Testing Days

To account for additional traffic at morning Kiss and Ride, we will allow students to enter the building beginning at 9:20 a.m. on SOL testing days.

Testing Dates Remaining; May 20, 25, 26, 27

Students who arrive before the 9:30 a.m. bell may wait in the gym, socially distanced. 

After SOL testing is finished on May 27, GBW will return to our previous K&R schedule where the doors open at 9:30 a.m.


6th Grade: Promotion Ceremony, Car Parade, & Party on Monday, June 7th

Congratulations to our graduating class of 2021!  In an effort to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of our graduating 6th graders, we will be hosting three separate events for our 6th grade students / families on Monday, June 7th:

9:00 – 10:30 am 6th Grade Promotion Ceremony

  • 6th grade families will receive a link to join this virtual event in a future email from GBW. 

12:45 – 1:30 pm 6th Grade Car Parade

  • Families will be invited to drive through our K&R / Bus lane as the GBW staff will line up to cheer for our graduating 6th graders

1:30 – 3:30 pm 6th Grade Party

  • 6th Grade students will be invited to come in-person for their class party here at Greenbriar West (virtual students will be invited to attend as well, but please know that FCPS transportation will not be provided).
  • Our 6th Grade Teachers will ensure that we continue to adhere to all of the FCPS Mitigation Strategies and CDC Safety Guidelines at this event (mask wearing, hand washing, social distancing, etc…)

 


2. 2021 SOL Testing - Schedule Now Available

Testing dates for SOLs have been determined.  Click here for the SOL Testing Schedule. 

Families of virtual students are asked to drop students off between 9:20-9:45 a.m. on testing day. These families can return around 12:45/1:00 p.m. for pick-up at Kiss and Ride.

If you have any questions regarding “day of” testing logistics, please email your child’s teacher or the Assistant Principal, Jordan Cook at jccook@fcps.edu.


3. FCPS Meals Information

Meal kits are available to ALL FCPS students and children 18 years of age and under at no cost. Parents and caregivers may pick up one meal kit for each child. Adults may purchase meal kits for $28. Instructions on how to store the food and prepare it are provided with the kit.

Location for pickup is at Door 8, located by the side parking lot.

Monday, May 24th: 10am- 12:30pm 
Meal kits will cover 8 days since there will be no distribution on Memorial Day. (Meal kids contain breakfast, lunch, snack and supper)

Monday, May 31st
NO Meal Distribution- Memorial Day Holiday

Monday, June 7th : 9:30-12 or until supply is depleted
Distribution is opening and closing early to accommodate the 6th grade parade.  (7 day kits containing breakfast, lunch, snack , and Supper)

Thursday, June 10th : 10am -12:30pm or until supply is depleted
(7 day kits containing breakfast and lunch)

Friday, June 11th: 10am -12:30pm or until supply is depleted
(7 day kits containing breakfast and lunch)

 


4. GBW Library

Book Return

All Greenbriar West Library Books from last year and this current school year are due by Friday, May 28th. 

Students & families will be receiving emails with specific titles they still have out.  Please return any items you are no longer reading as soon as possible.  Feel free to keep books you are still reading until Friday, May 28th.  Any items on your account that you are unable to locate please reach out to Mrs. Wilhelm.

There is a wagon outside of the main entrance (Door 1) during school hours for families to drop off their books. If the wagon is not outside, please ring the doorbell.

5. Scholastic Book Fair

There are 2 ways to shop:

Option #1.

You can shop the Scholastic Book Fair in-person on the GBW Blacktop. Please wear a mask and maintain social distance.  The in-person Book Fair will be open:

7. Diversity in STEM Talk

8. Emergency Broadband Benefit Program

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has announced that the $3.2 billion Emergency Broadband Benefit Program will launch on May 12. This federal program will provide a $50/month ($75/month on tribal lands) subsidy for the cost of internet service for select individuals for 6 months. The list of Virginia's participating broadband providers can be found - here.

Eligible households can sign up for the program directly through their broadband provider or online. For more information and to sign up, visit the program website - https://getemergencybroadband.org/

TONIGHT! Final PTA Membership Meeting 7:30pm

Although there is no Dinner with Principals event this month, we hope you will still join us for our FINAL PTA meeting of this unprecedented school year! 

Hear important updates from our PTA Board and Principals about the rest of this school year and planning for next school year. Bring up any questions, suggestions, or concerns you may have!

Thank You Parents for Helping Make 2021 Teacher Appreciation Week a Success!

During the teacher’s appreciation week the teachers and staff were showered with special treats from a Mexican Fiesta Lunch, to Ice Cream treats, to even tables filled with snacks supplied by GBW parents. The PTA wants to thank all the GBW parents that supported these events, we couldn’t have done it without you!


We Love Our Office Staff!

While this year has been a little different than most, our office staff has been top notch! We wanted to celebrate them and show them how much the PTA appreciates all they do for the school so we hosted a special luncheon for them on Tuesday, May 18th. If you have time, feel free to send an encouraging note to our ladies in the office, we know they would love to hear from you!
