FCPS Opioid Awareness Program

FCPS Opioid Awareness Program

Dear Hayfield Community,

My name is Marty Joyner and I am the Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist for the Hayfield pyramid.  In October of 2019, the Hayfield community suffered a tragedy when Brandon Bell, a former student from the class of 2016 died of an overdose of Opioids and Xanax.  Brandon was an amazing young man who was a star football player for the Hawks and was planning to play in college.

Over the last several months, I have been fortunate enough to meet and work with Brandon’s mother, Mrs. Tina Bell.  Mrs. Bell contacted me early in the school year and offered to share her story with the Hayfield community to bring awareness to this national epidemic.  We have worked together to develop a presentation to hopefully help any member of the community who may be experiencing or know someone who may be experiencing a similar situation.

The FCPS YouTube video linked below is a conversation between Mrs. Bell and myself and was professionally recorded and edited by FCPS Department of Information Technology.  Before it is released to the general public, we wanted to give the Hayfield Community of parents, students and staff a chance to see it first.
