voice

At Forest Edge ES, your child’s success is our top priority. To help us in determining the best educational environment for your child for the 2021-2022 school year, we invite you to share information regarding your child’s needs. Please know that this form is optional. You may list your child’s strengths, areas for growth, and motivators. You may also want to include your child’s learning style and characteristics of a teacher that you feel will best meet your child’s needs. Please do NOT request a specific teacher by name.

Your input is appreciated. We consider all aspects of your child when thinking about class placement, including input from current teachers.

Please complete this survey no later than May 28.

2021 - 2022 Return to School - ONLINE Requests

Dear Forest Edge Families,

Over the past month, we have enjoyed welcoming back many students for in-person instruction. Hearing laughter in our halls and seeing the joy of human connections have brought new energy, as we prepare for the coming school year. It has reminded us of how truly important it is for us to be together in person.

We are so excited that FCPS will be offering five days of in-person instruction to all students this fall! These past few months of having smaller groups of students in our buildings showed that our students can adapt to new learning environments, and that our safety strategies do work to limit the spread of COVID-19 in school buildings. School administrative teams, teachers, and building support staff are committed to providing a safe place for your students to learn.

We understand that there may be unique and personal reasons why you have opted to keep your child in the virtual learning environment. School-based staff are available to listen and help you feel confident that returning your child to school this fall will be a safe and positive experience.

There will be an opportunity for virtual learning for the 2021-22 school year (SY), but it will be very limited.

There is a Virtual Program application process, and eligibility will be determined based on a health/medical certification of need completed by a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, psychiatrist, or a licensed clinical psychologist. A COVID-19 Health Eligibility form must be completed, including parental permission to contact the treating healthcare provider, for your child to be considered for the Virtual Program. If you are unable to access a healthcare provider for whatever reason, your school staff is available to help. Please do not hesitate to reach out.

Scheduling for the Virtual Program will happen during the summer, and schedules will be finalized in August. If your child meets the criteria for the Virtual Program, we cannot guarantee they will be assigned a teacher from your school. Virtual Program teachers will be determined based on enrollment and will be from across the school division. Course and program availability in the Virtual Program will depend on enrollment and staffing, as is the case for in-person instruction each year. Also, some specialized programs will not be available to Virtual Program students. Our Virtual Program webpage has more information on courses that will not be offered virtually.

Additionally, for students who meet the criteria for the Virtual Program, the ability to participate in activities or athletics, will be on a case-by-case basis, and will be made based on a review of medical appropriateness or safety.

Virtual Program enrollment is for the entire school year. However, families will be able to request a return to in-person instruction at the semester break.

For planning purposes, we are asking families with current virtual students or with students who will be new to FCPS for the 2021-22 SY to let us know if you intend to apply for the Virtual Program this fall based on your child’s documented medical need. If you do intend to apply for the Virtual Program, please complete this Intent to Apply form. Doing so DOES NOT guarantee Virtual Program enrollment for your child. You must still complete the COVID-19 Health Eligibility form, which includes a health/medical certification of need to be filled out by a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, psychiatrist, or a licensed clinical psychologist; and you must submit a Virtual Program Enrollment Application between May 17 and May 21.

We are eager to see your student(s) in person this fall. Please know we are here to support you and help you prepare your children for the 2021-22 school year.

SUMMARY OF ACTION ITEMS:

If your child(ren) has a health/medical need for instruction in the Virtual Program, please:

  1. Fill out the Intent to Apply form by May 20th, and FEES will contact you with next steps on the Virtual Program eligibility and enrollment process.
  2. Download the COVID-19 Health Eligibility Form [link] beginning May 5, which requires a health/medical certification of need that must be completed by a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, psychiatrist, or a licensed clinical psychologist.
  3. Submit completed COVID-19 Health Eligibility Form with health/medical certification to virtualenrollment@fcps.edu between May 17-21. Upon submission, families will receive an electronic reply with detailed instructions on how to complete the Virtual Program Enrollment Application via the online application portal between May 17-21.

FCPS’ Central Virtual Program Enrollment Team will contact you with a decision by June 1.
