WSHS Will Participate in the Zoom Pilot Program
We wanted to make sure that you are aware that our school has been selected for a small test group for FCPS’ new video conferencing software, Zoom.
As FCPS prepares to welcome students back to five days of in-person learning in the fall, we are also aware that there will be a small number of students who, due to a medical or health need, need to apply to remain virtual. To improve the experience of the limited number of students who may be approved to continue with virtual learning next school year, we are updating our video conferencing and virtual learning tools.
Principals, teachers, staff, students, and parents actively participated in the selection of Zoom and appreciated its capabilities to improve on student and teacher virtual experiences. Beginning this summer, Zoom will replace Blackboard Collaborate Ultra as the video conferencing tool inside of Schoology, our new online Learning Management System (LMS). FCPS has been working very closely with our Zoom implementation partner over the past several months to ensure that our Zoom environment is configured to be both easy to use and also locked down for student use. A few of our teachers will be testing Zoom with their classes over the next several weeks, in order to provide feedback to improve the Zoom experience for all FCPS teachers and students starting this summer. The experience should be relatively seamless for your student.
Here is what you need to know: • Students will need to be logged into their FCPS Google account when using Zoom. • Your student will find the link to the Zoom class session within their Schoology course. • When your student clicks on the Zoom link on an FCPS laptop, the Zoom application should open, and the student should be able to enter the class session. • If your student is using a personal device, you may see a prompt to download the free Zoom app the first time the student enters the virtual class.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach back to us at the school
