The Principal's Desk!

Greetings Families,

We are excited to announce that 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Wendy Forstall, has received the City of Fairfax Rotary Club Elementary Teacher of the Year!  Wendy has served the Daniels Run community for 20 years and we are better educators and people as a result of our relationships with Mrs. Forstall. Congratulations Wendy!

I would also like to thank our 2020-21 PTA board: for their time and effort this year:

  • Lacey O'Donnell, President
  • Amit Hickman,1st VP
  • Cappy Russell, 2nd VP

  • Nisha Shendikar, Treasurer

We had our final PTA meeting of the year this past week and our PTA board has done an tremendous job supporting our students, staff and families during this unusual year.  Please join us for the talent show on Friday, May 21st at 7:00

Contact me directly at cmsmith@fcps.edu or call the main office (703-279-8400) if there is anything our school team can do to support your student and family.

2021-22 School Year Class Placement Information

We are in the planning stages for the 2021-22 school year and to help determine the appropriate educational environment for your child, we invite you to share information regarding your child’s needs by completing the Daniels Run Parent Input Form for the 2020-21 School Year. Your input is appreciated but it is not required to complete the form.  Every effort will be made to place your child in the environment you request, but please keep in mind that not all requests can be granted. Please do not request specific teachers, for this does not take into account the many variables to be considered. It is far more valuable to share particular academic or behavioral information.  The form will be open and available to be completed through Friday, May 21st.

June 8th, Synchronous Learning Day

Tuesday, June 8, is the Democratic Primary Election. Because the Fairfax County Electoral Board and City of Fairfax Electoral Board will be using 165 school facilities as polling locations (including Daniels Run ES), June 8 will be a virtual synchronous learning day (no in-person classes) for students.

Activate your SIS ParentVue Account!

The SIS ParentVUE Account (Student Information System ParentVUE Account) is the FCPS secure solution for accessing information about your child's attendance, class performance, demographic data, and links to FCPS 24-7 information. It provides an additional conduit for communication with your child's school.

Learn more about the SIS ParentVue Account here.

Need a SIS ParentVue Accout? Activation Information here

Forth quarter report cards will not be printed and mailed. We are encouraging parents to view their child's grades on their SIS ParentVue Account on June 15th. If you would like your child's report card printed and/or mailed please contact our Registrar Ms. Araceli Nunez, anunez@fcps.edu.

Calling All Library Books!

As of Monday, May 3rd there are 856 books that are overdue in the library. Most of these items are from the 2019-2020 school year which was disrupted in March 2020. The good news is this number decreased from August 2020 when 2,870 books were out! While overdue items continue to be returned, the total loss as it stands today is significant. The number of books we are missing comes to over $12,000 worth of materials that will need to be replaced over time. This will compete with purchasing newly released books for the library.

If you have books that are overdue, please take some time to sweep through your home to see what you can recover. Even if we only get half the books back it will be a huge help! Please email Sheila Brosnan (Librarian) if you have any questions or concerns (scbrosnan@fcps.edu). Students will not be charged for missing or damaged books.

Students can return the books directly to the library or place them in the plastic bin outside the front doors of the school”

Positivity Project!

This is the last week for the Positivity Project for the school year.

As we close out the P2 calendar for this school year, our Partner Schools are focusing on the Other People Mindset.  This mindset consists of the five elements intended to help people understand ways to build positive relationships in their own lives: identifying and appreciating the good in others, knowing my words and actions affect others, supporting others when they struggle, cheering others’ successes, and being present and giving others my attention.
