We hope your child will join us for our last round of Monday Clubs. We are so grateful to our Arts team for providing this enriching opportunity throughout the year.
Dear Woodburn Families,
We continue to learn and grow together at Woodburn. This week brought writing celebrations in 2nd grade, kindergartners integrating music and poetry, community building kickball games, and so much more.
Information about end of the year events will be shared in the coming weeks. This is an exciting time and we look forward to celebrating the end of the year with you and our wildcats.
Together we grow,
Katy and Bridget

2021 FSO Link Up Program
"Swing Dancers" created by 3rd Grade Woodburn Artist, Nora Mertz
We invite you to join us on Thursday, May 27th at 6:30 pm for a virtual celebration of our 2021 Link Up program! We will come together as a school community to watch musical and artistic performances by students, teachers, and Fairfax Symphony Orchestra (FSO) musicians. There will be fun learning games for all!
With help from our amazing community partner, the FSO, Woodburn students have been learning a musical program about Jazz and Swing music in their General Music and Visual Art classes. Many schools in our area are participating in this program and Woodburn has taken a leading role! Several of our Woodburn students and teachers are featured frequently throughout an engaging and interactive video they have produced. We are excited to celebrate the arts and our students’ achievements throughout this event and hope you’re able to join us!
Parent Input for Next School Year
We are already working on our plans for the 2021-2022 school year! Class placements are an essential component of learning and building community. If you have information that you would like us to consider as we determine placements, please share your input by answering a few questions on the form shared below. We know that a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success, and we carefully consider each child’s strengths and needs during this process. Please do not request specific teachers, as this does not take into account the many variables we must take into consideration. It is far more valuable to share particular academic or behavioral information.
Completion of this form is optional. If you would like to provide input, you may use the online form shared below; print, complete and email to Katy Richman (kjrichman@fcps.edu); or submit a hard copy to the office. All forms are due by May 21, 2021. This is a hard deadline. Please know that input from forms turned in over the summer are difficult to honor since the grouping process has already started.

Befriending Cicadas at Hidden Oaks Monday May 17 from 2-3 p.m. (younger siblings allowed) but planned for ages 6 and above.
The period cicadas Brood X will soon be throughout our area in impressive numbers. Friends, neighbors and local media are taking notice. Help Hidden Oaks promote how we can all tolerate sharing our neighborhood with cicadas this spring and summer. One way is to gain more of an understanding of and appreciation for these unusual creatures. Program outdoors at the campfire area. Space is limited. Sign up here!
