Haycock Hello 5.14.21

Dear Haycock Families,

It has been wonderful to see our virtual students in grades 3-6 as they come into the building, many of them for the first time this year, to take their SOLs.  SOL testing continues for the next two weeks.  Please see the schedule below and ensure that your child is in school, unless they are sick, on the day of their SOL.

Families of students who remain virtual received information about the very limited virtual option for next year. Please see information below about the requirements for this option. Our hope is that all students will rejoin us for five days in person in the fall. We have just learned that hot breakfast and lunch will be provided for all students in the fall, free of charge!

Dr. Fabio Zuluaga, our Assistant Superintendent, visited Haycock this week.  I was proud to show him around.  The hard work on the part of the teachers and the enthusiasm of our in-person students to be back four days a week was evident.  He had only good things to say about Haycock and the work we are doing together.

If you have neighbors with rising kindergarten students or families that have just moved to the area, encourage them to register their students at Haycock.  This only helps us with our staffing and preparations for next school year.

I hope you and your family are well. Have a nice weekend and Eid-Mubarak!

Dr. Liz Beaty

Congratulations to all these students!

Gardens

Join us on Sunday, 5/16 to Beautify the Haycock Gardens

Stop by Haycock on Sunday, May 16 between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00a.m.  We are going to tackle the weeds that have flourished in the recent rain and cool weather.  This is a great opportunity for older students to earn service hours if they are needed.  We want to keep Haycock's beautiful outdoor spaces and gardens looking beautiful!

Limited Virtual Program for Next Year

Eligibility for the very limited Virtual Program for next year will be determined on the basis of a health/medical certification of need submitted by a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, psychiatrist, or a licensed clinical psychologist.

On May 5, parents/guardians gained access to the COVID-19 Health Eligibility form (and all translated versions) on the Virtual Program Enrollment webpage. Parents/Guardians will complete and sign the top portion of the form and the medical provider will complete and sign the bottom potion. The parent/guardian will then submit the form to virtualenrollment@fcps.edu

Parents/guardians will then access the Virtual Program Enrollment online application to complete their request. Virtual Program Enrollment requests may be submitted through the online portal beginning May 17. The deadline for submission has been extended to May 28.

To access the Virtual Program Enrollment application, the enrolling parent must have a SIS Parent Account to submit an online Virtual Program enrollment request.

When the review process is completed, the FCPS Virtual Program enrollment specialist will notify the enrolling parent of the approval or denial decision by email to the primary email address. Decisions will be made by June 7.

Kindergarten  Registration

Registrations are open and will be completed virtually! To get started please visit our website at https://haycockes.fcps.edu/student-services/student-registration and review the registration requirements and paperwork listed there. Then submit the Registration Intake Form embedded in the webpage to start the process.

If you have any questions about registrations, the process, or Haycock please contact our Registrar, Christine LaVallee at clavallee@fcps.edu.

Registration is important for our planning, staffing, and can impact class sizes. So, please register early! It will also help our planning and get to know your new student if you can submit this Kindergarten Information Form

To include you in future communications, we encourage you to self-enroll and subscribe to News You Choose and select Haycock Elementary.  We look forward to seeing and meeting your child in 2021-2022.

Haycock School Intentions for Next School Year 2021-22

Please share your intentions for the 2021-2022 school year.  Specifically, we are looking to collect data for those who might be moving for the school year. Please complete one form per student if you will not be returning next school year.

Class Placements and Intentions for 2021-22

Every year, our staff collaborates regarding student placements for the next school year.  This year, we had many factors that weighed into the decision making process.  Please note that we continue to take into consideration many factors such as friendships, gender, academics, and personalities. Completing the form is completely optional, but if you do want to provide input, the form needs to be completed and submitted no later than May 14.  Please consider the following:

  • We do not accept requests for specific teachers.
  • The deadline is today, May 14.
  • We do not guarantee friend requests. As shared above, we will take parent input under consideration but will defer to our staff for final placement decisions.

Here is the link to provide your input https://forms.gle/8rgdiXhsjhJpPWca9 .  It is due May 14th - thanks for your input.

How to Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month at Home:

May is Jewish American Heritage Month

From Ramadan, Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, to Mother’s Day and Memorial Day, May marks a time of celebration and commemoration for many communities across the country. These 31 days are also designated as Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) when we pay tribute to the achievements and contributions made by American Jews throughout our nation’s history.

The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in paying tribute to the generations of Jewish Americans who have helped form the fabric of American history, culture, and society.
