Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

Thank you for all the ways you took time to share your appreciation for our amazing Stenwood teachers and staff!  We know the handwritten notes, gift cards, and delicious treats all made our staff feel special.  Thank you to the PTA who organized the events, gifts, and lunch!

As announced at the School Board work session this week, FCPS is moving forward with planning for an all in person, 5 days a week school year for next year.  They also shared that there will be a very limited virtual option for students who it is medically necessary.  FCPS and Stenwood sent out communication on Wednesday to currently virtual families regarding the process required to apply for the virtual option for next year.  This virtual program will be run centrally through FCPS and not through Stenwood.  The deadline to share that you intend to apply for this option is Sunday, May 9th.

We are looking forward to having a sense of normalcy next year and having hopefully everyone back together again.  If you have any friends or neighbors that have left Stenwood this school year due to the pandemic, please let them know we would love to welcome them back next year.

As a reminder, though the CDC has updated the guidance regarding mask wearing for vaccinated individuals, FCPS requires the use of masks both indoors and outdoors at all times.  If you would like to read the specific information from FCPS, please read the full section below.  We ask that you please continue your use of face masks even when outside, including at arrival and dismissal.  If at any time you do not have a mask, one can be provided for you if you ask a Stenwood staff member.

Face Masks Are Still Required at All Times at All FCPS Sites, Indoors and Outdoors

On Thursday, April 29th, Governor Ralph Northam amended Executive Order Seventy-Two to adopt new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on mask use in outdoor settings. The CDC guidelines state that fully vaccinated individuals do not have to wear masks outdoors when alone or in small gatherings. Mask use is still required indoors and outdoors on FCPS sites.

What does that mean for FCPS?

  • Sports (to include spectators of FCPS events) must continue to wear masks.  Only athletes engaged in active play may remove their masks.
  • Until further notice, FCPS’ Regulation 2109 still requires masks in facilities and on school property as FCPS has no way of knowing who is and who isn’t vaccinated.

Positivity Project: #OtherPeopleMatter

- Outro Week

P2 Pic

This week, we were working on reviewing our year-long exploration of Character through the Positivity Project. During these last thirty-four weeks, we have learned that our character is a family of thoughts, feelings, and actions that are recognized and encouraged across our different cultures for the values they cultivate in people and society. Our character is complex. It is the combination of our thoughts, feelings and actions. Just like other things in our life, we have strengths and weaknesses of character as well.

As you spend time together at home, now and throughout the summer, consider the following questions:

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • Why are our strengths important?

  • How can knowing are weaknesses in character help us grow?

  • How can you challenge yourself to be the best possible version of yourself?

Library Book Checkout & Return

Virtual students can still check out books, but do not need to wait until Mondays for pickup.  Once Mrs. Cole has pulled the books, you will get an email letting you know that the books are ready for pickup in the main foyer in the front of the school.  You can pick them up any day during regular school hours.  There will also be a return bin for any books coming back to the library.
