MUES Spring Fun Run!

Mark your calendar for a Fun Day as we celebrate spring and our first week of SOLS! Students will participate in the Fun Run during their Specials time with their grade level; instead of going to PE, Music, Art, Library, Strings or Band.  Students can run, walk, or dance while having fun with their classmates on our course.  In-person students will be participating outside at school during their Specials block. Virtual students will be participating at home in their neighborhood. More details will be provided in our PE Google Classrooms for our virtual students next week. Unfortunately, no families will be allowed to come and watch or cheer on their Mustang this year.

All Students should WEAR SNEAKERS and a MASK; as well as have a FULL WATER BOTTLE for the Fun Run.  All students are also encouraged to dress up whether you are in-person or virtual.  We will be giving prizes to each grade level for the BEST - * McNair Pride Spirit Wear, Crazy Socks, Crazy Hat, P2 Award*

4th Grade – 11:30-12:30 pm

P2 Character Tenant: Other People Mindset

This mindset consists of the five elements intended to help people understand ways to build positive relationships in their own lives: identifying and appreciating the good in others, knowing my words and actions affect others, supporting others when they struggle, cheering others’ successes, and being present and giving others my attention.

This week’s example is Dr. Chris Peterson. Dr. Peterson was a Professor of Psychology at the University of Michigan and Co-Director of the Michigan Positive Psychology Center. In 2010, he was awarded the university’s Golden Apple Award, given annually to one professor who “treats each lecture as if it were his last.” Chris was one of the founders and leading figures in positive psychology – and was among the 100 most widely cited psychologists in the world. He served as research director of the Values in Action (VIA) project, which described, classified, and measured character strengths. His VIA Survey of Signature Strengths has been taken by more than a million people throughout the globe.

So, why does this matter? Because research shows that relationships are a key predicator of health, happiness, and resilience. As the National Scientific Council on the Developing Child (NSCDC) at Harvard University found, “Resilience requires relationships, not rugged individualism.” That’s because, when researching why some children do well and show resilience despite exposure to stressful circumstances and hardship, the NSCDC observed: “The single most common finding is that children who end up doing well have had at least one stable and committed relationship with a supportive parent, caregiver, or other adult.”
