This week our teachers and staff were showered with sweet treats in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week. A BIG thank you to our PTA, students, and parents for all the cards, kind words, flowers, goodies and gifts!

Happy Mothers Day!

md

We wish a very happy Mother's Day to all of the moms, grandmas, aunts, and women in our community who give so much every day to take care of our children as they grow and learn! Your love, support, and dedication ensure our students grow up happy and healthy.

A typed parent/guardian name on the Parent Signature line is acceptable.  Student ID Number may be left blank.  Save the completed form, attach it to an email and send to jwboddie@fcps.edu.

If you have questions, please call Jill Boddie at 703-227-3519.

June 8th is a Virtual Day

v

On Tuesday, June 8th, all students in FCPS will participate in virtual instruction. There will not be any in-person instruction.

This change to the calendar was made because June 8th is an election day and many schools are polling locations.

Kindergarten & New Student Registration

k

Do you have a rising Kindergartner?   We are currently enrolling for the 2021 – 2022 school year. The student must be five by September 30, 2021 to qualify for Kindergarten. Documentation required for enrollment includes the most recent physical examination with record of immunizations, birth certificate, and proof of residency/Deed or Lease.

For more information and to start the registration process, please visit our website at https://leescorneres.fcps.edu and submit a new student registration intake form.

Additional information is available at https://www.fcps.edu/registration/kindergarten-registration.

We would appreciate your assistance in sharing this information with neighbors who have preschool children or who are new to the area.  Please encourage them to visit our website or contact our Registrar, Jill Boddie for enrollment information. She can be reached at 703-227-3519 or jwboddie@fcps.edu.

SOL Testing

SOL testing has begun and will continue in May for students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Virtual students who will NOT take the SOLs have the option of taking a remote test (not an SOL) to measure their progress this year. Test tickets for the remote reading test have been emailed to students.

Virtual students will test on Mondays as listed below:

Monday, May 10th--3rd and 5th grade Reading

Monday, May 17th--5th and 6th grade Math

Monday, May 24th--3rd and 4th Math; 5th grade Science

Virtual students should arrive at school between 8:45--8:55 a.m. so testing may begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. Pickup time has been moved up to 11:00 AM because students are finishing the tests much quicker than expected. Please use the Kiss and Ride loop for both drop off and pick up. The front parking lot is used for buses.

Students will be offered a breakfast before testing begins. Students may bring a snack, and a water bottle is highly recommended. Water fountains are not being used for drinking at this time.

In-person students will test on a day when they are in school.

Walk In My Shoes Virtual 5K

wims

Walk In My Shoes program activities are designed to create more welcoming school environments for all kids. Students will learn about challenges their peers face on a daily basis, develop empathy and compassion, and learn strategies to support their peers.

  • Increase knowledge--by providing information about learning differences, developmental challenges, and medical issues;
  • Build empathy--by providing opportunities to take the perspective of others;
  • Build skill--by helping students identify strategies they can use to support a friend.
